I'm five hundred miles from home for a wedding, and my car's engine just breathed its irrevocably final breath. I have no idea how I'm going to get home, and somehow I need to find the funds for a new car.
I am now concerned.

I have a feeling you're going to be giving a lot of head to truckers soon.

This happened to me while moving cross-country. I tried renting a car but was too young. I had to rent a Uhaul that cost like 3 times as much and sucked the gas down.

In all seriousness, I wish you the best of luck. My prayers go out to you for your safe return home.
That being said, carjack someone.

Hope you make it home safely.
Find a skateboard, then look for a jeep to grab on to the back of.

You can cut some of the distance down if you have AAA.
They will tow 5 miles for free for normal members, 100 miles for PLUS members and 200 miles for premium members.
It isn't perfect, but it might help a bit.
Also if the car isn't worth very much (less than $1000) you can try to sell it for scraps where you are. Ideally getting enough money to make the return trip home.

I'm doing alright. I had some friends not too far away who picked me up and have graciously let me spend a few nights on their couch. In the daylight, some of the engine trouble looked a bit better than it did at night, so my car may yet live. Unfortunately, the cost of repairs will be more expensive than the car is actually worth, so in any normal circumstances I would sell it and move on to something else, but because I'm stuck away from home and also due to several extenuating life circumstances, I'll just have to bite the bullet.

You can probably scrap the car for a couple hundred bucks, if you need the cash.

It's good to hear you at least have a place to sleep. Best wishes, and don't make it a priority, but keep us updated.
Where exactly are you at?

My car was fixed late this afternoon. Heading back home early tomorrow morning. It will be magnificent to see my bed again. Here's hoping the car makes it. Thanks everybody for the prayers, thoughts, and concerns that were uttered in this thread.

Made it. I'm am now home. My car began dying a different death en route, but I five dollars later I was the proud owner of a funnel and a pint of transmission fluid, and kept it alive. Now trying decide whether I will get more enjoyment out of the money from selling my car or the pleasure from lighting it on fire.
