"Movie execs and Lionsgate-Summit want to revamp the period action film franchise "Highlander," according to Variety, and Ryan Reynolds is in final talks to replace Christopher Lambert as the star of the film.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct the reimagining of the 1986 movie, which starred Lambert, Sean Connery and Roxanne Hart.

Lambert and Connery returned for the film's sequel "Highlander: The Quickening" in 1991 - with Lambert reprising the role a futher two times.

The original film centered on an immortal Scottish swordsman who must confront the last of his immortal opponent, a murderously brutal barbarian who lusts for the fabled "Prize."

I am sure they can find someone else. I really don't want to hear Ryan Reynolds attempt a Scot accent.

I feel like this would be a good project for Gerard Butler.

I love Christoph Lambert more than you can possibly fathom...but I think "Scottish accent" is not high on the list of things Reynolds would have to do. Laughing

In fairness though, Lambert's accent has a very un-placable quality to it, which (at least to me) fit a character who has lived all over the world for hundreds of years very well. A flat American accent would be a total nogo.

I don't enjoy horror films, so 28 Weeks Later was never on my list to see. Is the director capable of delivering a quality movie or is this going to be some Uwe Boll piece of shit.

I never considered Highlander a horror series (except for The Source, but that's a completely different type of horror--right Spoony?). Though truth be told, I've never seen any of the movies.

I was talking about 28 weeks later, not Highlander.

No no, it won't be that bad. I enjoyed 28 Weeks Later. Not as good as Days, but it wasn't terrible. I'm more worried about the Highlander remake script than anything.

Connery made this film.

He's the only reason why it is slightly watchable - and he himself was shit. He was meant to be spanish but still had a fucking Scottish accent. Otherwise it is pretty terrible.

Reynolds is just making it worse.

Also i remember watching Highlander: The Source a few years ago. It barely has a plot.

I really wanted to like Highlander, but it just fell flat for me. The scenes that took place in medieval Scotland were good, but I found the modern day scenes to be boring. I know it was a necessary transition, being that the characters' immortality the central theme, but still......meh.

That said, the theory behind it is sound.....immortals trying to behead each other. The remake could be done well.

Just happened upon this, and wanted to throw in my two bits.

If they need someone who could play a convincing Scotsman (i.e. is actually Scottish), is considered fairly attractive, and is probably not averse to doing stunts of a weird nature, there's only one person...

[SPOILER:37f1b42e14]David Tennant.[/SPOILER:37f1b42e14]

Alowishus is partly right though, I couldn't imagine Highlander without Sean Connery. They tried that, and it did not work out well.

David Tenant isn't masculine enough for a Highlander movie. He's far too boyish and skiddish. He could play the loopy comic relief well though.

That never stopped Quentin Macleod in the animated series.

Good point since that was a raving success.

Finally, someone else who remembers it! I used to watch it every Saturday morning right after eating two bowls of the Nintendo Cereal System. I had all the toys, and even begged my parents to buy me a Jaguar CD so I could play the video game.

David Tennant could play a good movie villain. The guy who is more aggressive than he has any right to be when things are going his way, but leaves all the heavy lifting to his top henchman, and then gets killed in like 10 seconds when he tries to take on the hero himself. But that's also why he wouldn't be a good fit for the Highlander series.

Hmm...the only other actual Scotsman I can name is Sean Connery, and he is both A) Ramirez, and B) Retired.

Sean Connery,? In Highlander? That's a stupid idea. He should be the next Doctor Who instead.

But I like the Gerard Butler idea. Ryan Reynolds is a fucking shit headed turd. How many more characters must he molest on screen before they stop putting him in movies?

Ewan Mcgregor, Robert Carlisle - both very accomplished Scottish actors whose body of work far exceeds Dr. Who fanboyism.

I have to agree with this.

He also played Hitler in a movie and was fantastic.
