I know we almost all read Cracked anway, but this article caught my eye today. I'd love to get some perspective on it from you guys. What do you think? Is it true? Retarded? Somewhere in between? As you might expect, the comments section is basically a cesspool--nothing enlightening to read there, so I thought I'd ask here.

I have my eye on a woman that most people wouldn't consider attractive. As you should all know by now, I'm not most people.

Disagree with #5, #4 kind of, but less so now because women are just as dominant in any field in America as males, #3 I agree with only because of some of the women I know, #2 no, but they do take a part of your soul when you actually care and get screwed over and #1 I don't.
Everyone's experiences in life may show them differently, but the general consensus of most men probably fits the stereotypes listed there. Not everyone is typical, however.

If men would stop marrying whores, all this anti-marriage sentiment would go away.

So, i red the article and it is alright. Basically, men are cock controlled. Whatever.
I think most problems between men and women exist because loving somebody is dangerous. If you trust somebody you are vulnerable and it's hard to handle that.

Well, I was going to skip this one, because the topic felt a bit forced, but what the hell, if it's for the sake of the discussion, I'll do it
It feels to me that the author searched the internet for the most sexist, borderline psychotic individual he could find and made him the average for the sake of shock value. I mean, we all know the internet is fucked up, but that's just the combination of an audience and some level of anonymity. In those situations, sure, I believe men will objectify women more. Why? Because it's people he doesn't know. It's a proven fact that the human mind wasn't build to care about everyone ever, or at least not to see everyone as equals. (Cracked had a great "Monkey Circle" article, but I can't seem to find it, I'll give it another try later). When your whole interaction with someone is a picture, you're inclined to judge them by their looks. And if you have an inflated enough ego and you're dumb as a brick, you might post something saying exactly what you think of someone based on what amounts to a few thousand pixels.
I don't believe that means "Modern Men" are trained to hate women. I believe the internet is trained to objectify women, yes, but that's because it's mostly a visual media. While some people are willing to read walls of text and be informed about an event or person (Like you are right now. Hi reading person!), many will just look over the pictures and form an opinion based on that, because it's easier. Now, one could argue that this behavior is bleeding out of the internet, and that's terrible and somewhat expected, but it's not our reality. Not yet.
There's information manipulation on this article. Like, for example, on that last part about the political cartoon. OF COURSE the cartoonist will draw someone he doesn't agree with to look uglier. Making her pretty would send a different message. It's not about hating women, it's about hating the other side of a political discussion, and about the media the cartoonist is drawing for. This caught my eye because I've studied cartoons, and how to draw people for different uses, so maybe there are other instances of information manipulation in there that I didn't pick up. It's entirely understandable, Cracked isn't a news site, it's a humor/interesting information site.
So, in conclusion, no, I don't agree, nor do I have any reason to believe most people agree or feel this way. I'd say it's "somewhere in between". We're not at the end of social civility, and we're not dick driven women hating machines. But if we were, we would be able to see how it came to this.

I think the only two points that he made that might have any tiny little bit of truth to then are 4 and 5. Sure maybe the use of women in advertising to sell stuff makes men objectify them on some level and yeah maybe there is that creepy stalker guy who thinks he deserves a girl because of something he did for her. I just don't see it being such a big factor that it drives men to hate women. I think for both sexes there are people that hate the opposite sex, but it is probably more due to personal experience with them that drives them to that hate than it is due to advertising or movies.
I know this is probably supposed to be part joke, but the rest of the points seem way off base. At least with number two, anyone who thinks women took away your right to burn something or tell a crude joke in an office is probably borderline retarded. Last I checked most of the laws telling you not to commit acts of arson or sexually harass people were written primarily by male lawmakers not a rabid band of women looking to castrate any men they could find.

That article seemed to take the worst stereotypes about men and apply them to ALL men. I am sure there are some guys out there who fit some of those stereotypes, but I would have to agree with Bob Dylan's Blues and call them losers.

Well the internet is just a stupid medium. It only teaches you that women are dumb as bread, eat cock for breakfast, lunch and dinner and always look like some crossbred between Barbie and Pamela Anderson.

The guy that wrote John Dies At The End wrote this article. I agreed with #5, at least about the insulting women thing. That may not be the average male, but you see it everywhere. I just read some poll that voted Florence Welch as the greatest frontwoman of all time, and commenters retailiated by insulting her looks.

The article was alright. I think a lot of its points were valid, but the tone of the writing was pretty silly and sort of detracts from that. It seems weird to me to write an article about the deprecation of women and such and to be really, blatantly sexist toward men throughout it--kinda misses the point of why sexism is bad. Modern people are conditioned to be prejudiced based on gender, and while women do tend to get the shorter end of the deal, it goes both ways. I don't agree that so many of the behaviours he talks about are inherent in people, I think most of what he's describing as guy behaviour is due to cultural reinforcement, which I don't think he talked about nearly enough.
And yeah, especially when he's quoting that insane people message board or whatever, it's pretty obvious he's just going for shock value. Most of the article is like that, though, more subtly. The reason why most of the article sounds so off to most people is because he's examining it at such a surface level, and for the most part ignoring the deeper symptoms. Sexism is very widespread in society, but it's ingrained in us at a very low level so that we don't even notice it generally. It's still just something we carried over from before society existed. When the problem is at that basic a level, it's not really well-suited to being discussed by a website like Cracked that needs its five points to make, because their points need to be much more in your face. A more valuable discussion would start at that basic level of separation between genders and go from there in how that concept is pushed on us. Things like gender-specific pronouns and names. This article, while a lot of its base points are good, tries way too much for shock value, and in seeking an angle takes a really hypocritical stance in its treatment of men.

Honestly, I think there was quite a bit of truth to it. I don't think the article was meant to state that all men overtly act that way, I know I sure as hell don't, and neither does any guy I know. I think he was speaking on a more primal, subconscious level. And let's face it, there does seem to be a sort of underlying anger towards women in society (from both men and women). Think of language - when you want to curse out a male, there's a wide variety of colorful, mostly meaningless words to use, but if it's a woman, no doubt you're going to call her a dog and question her chastity and/or willingness to have sex for money.
It's an interesting thesis, but I don't know if I'd call it "truth".

The article wasn't blanketing all men, just the absolute losers. The problem I see with sexism and the "misandry" movement is just how sad and deluded it is. Men hold almost every position of civil and coroporate power there is, yet they are somehow being kept down and have lost all power. Most men came to terms with the fact that what there are ways that the sexes interact that requires compromise on both sides, but for better or worse, nobody should be treated differently at face value. Then there are the self-obsessives who see themselves constantly under fire from an enemy that isn't there.

... in fact it's sad to look at women that way. It's like reducing a tree to it's function of growing fruits. There is just missing a lot to get the right perspective.
@Usa: Yeah there is some hatred against women in society but it's also vice versa.

Interesting read, except for the reliance on stupid internet comments as supporting evidence. I think its points can be true in varying degrees, depending upon the individual. Yes, for losers and dumb guys it's probably the most true. Others, not so much.
