Hey all!

If you frequent IRC you may have already heard me throw this idea about and to non-IRCers you are about to hear it.

Recently in the IRC we have been playing a lot of Mario Kart 7 and it seems that the general consensus when i have mentioned the idea of a Sydlexia Grand Prix is that it would be good idea/fun.

So this thread is basically to formally say if you have an interest and would like to participate then put your name down here to play so we can have an idea of numbers and who owns the game.

A lot of this isn't set in stone as of yet and i can see a lot of problems creeping into this but i have an outline idea of how this should be ran. If you have any thoughts or contributions to the running of this feel free to say, this is meant to be fun and if it sounds like it's gonna be shit or unfair then no one will play so please really do say.

With the flexibility of the online on Mario Kart 7 there is a lot of different ways this can be done. I know there is battling and maybe someone could organise a battle competition but i intend this to solely be for racing. With that the community is already 150cc and being the fastest/top level we should go with that.

We need to know how many are playing which is why we have this thread. Obviously it's only eight people per race so if there is an interest beyond that we may have to have a qualifying. Now this is open for discussion but i think a time trial sort of race against a ghost could be used to determine who gets in (in the scenario of 9 or more )- who sets the time/where we get the ghost is yet to be determined but it's just a suggestion.

I also think with the 150cc that we do it by cups. If you haven't played online the courses are determined by you selecting what you want to play and a sort of roulette wheel determines the choice. This has the chance to be unfair where people could repeatedly pick a course they know very well so i think it would be best if we play by cup i.e. everyone picks the first race of mushroom cup and then work your way through.

As Mario Kart already has a points system - i think it's 9, 6, 3, 1 etc. for placings (that's the SMK one, i can't remember the MK7 one) we could just use that for where you position in the race and then tally up at the end.

I also think that in the event of a tie for the top of the league that the people in question should race perhaps selected courses in Mirror Mode or something or maybe have an epic battle to finish. I don't know, there's so many options.

I'm thinking this should run in late January, a date can be determined. Some people may get the game in between this time, only got it so leave it late to let enough people get involved. Also it gives you all time to complete the game and practice. I imagine as you are all mostly in the US that the games will be played in EST. Again this depends on who is in the times etc.

So yeah that's basically the plan. Query or discuss how it should be ran to your hearts content and if you want to play put your name down, i'm starting the participants list now.

EDIT: Oh yes and think of what could be done in these situations: a person misses a race or they are disconnected from a race, especially the latter - how should points be awarded, do they lose all the points if played in earlier races before the disconnect or are they awarded zero?

Yeah i foresaw the connection problems. It was one of the problems i said i was considering. Smaller races and brackets could work as well i guess.

Well there is a few people who have the game who haven't posted here about the tournament.

Right okay sorry i've been busy the last few days.

We have 13 so far.

I am going to "close" the entries for the tournament at tomorrow midnight GMT (you're on my time now suckas) which is 7pm EST on 2nd Feb.

The format is going to be what Klim has stated just because 8 player races are likely to be more difficult to set up in everyone can be there and d/c.

So 4 player races. I have yet to determine the groups, i will probably do it on IRC after closing. Also the cups will be 4 races which are mixed. I am not sure if i will determine the races myself or put them into a hat on IRC again and the first four that are churned out.
