"Nintendo acknowledged that it is working on a new Zelda title during its Nintendo Direct conference this morning, but the more exciting news is the full-fledged HD remake of Wind Waker for Wii U coming this Fall.

The game will be playable both on the TV, and off-screen on the Wii U Game Pad, and will have MiiVerse functionality.

In regard to the brand-new Zelda title, series producer Eiji Aonuma said that the mission for the new game is to rethink Zelda's conventions and start fresh."

this might be enough for me to warrant buying a Wii U

Here's the deal with Wind Waker HD. In the past, Eiji Aonuma has apologized for:

1) Cutting Wind Waker content to make the deadline
2) How forced and dull the Triforce hunt at the end was.

If both of these issues are fixed, I will be all over this game. If at least Issue #1 is not fixed, Nintendo can take this game and shove it up Reggie's ass.

I wouldn't expect it at all. It'd be a nice surprise, but I'm being realistic about it. It's being able to play Wind Waker on the Gamepad, that's cool enough for me.

Believe it or not, I never really got too far into Wind Waker.

So I am pretty stoked to check this out later.

I have to question exactly how this game will benefit from Miiverse features. Is it going to allow Miis to take the place of citizens in the few towns in the game or something?

As long as it is at least just the game as it was released on the cube with HD graphics I will be happy. Being able to play it on the gamepad is a nice bonus. I will definitely be getting this.

I hope they fix the Triforce hunt. That's when I would usually lose interest and give up. Those pics look pretty damn pretty, so I might get this anyway.

I'm not entirely loving the new sculpted clay visual shift. In any case, unless there's actual new content I have no reason to purchase a game I already own.

Holy shit, this game looks beautiful. It was already beautiful on the Gamecube, but this is just crazy!

Also, and this is not negotiable, I want Tingle replaced with Mamu.

Sounds interesting, since I have never played the original (never owned a GameCube).

I wonder if they'll beef up the music. Wind Waker isn't my favorite Zelda game by a long shot (lol pun not intended), but it definitely has the best soundtrack in the series.

This looks gorgeous. I've never played through Wind Waker before, but I just bought a used copy, and now I'm slightly regretting it. That being said, I feel like Wind Waker on gamecube has aged phenomenally well from a graphical perspective. It still looks very pretty, even if it isn't as gorgeous as these screenshots.

Lookin' forward to see how this develops. Not Sure raises an interesting point - I love the soundtrack, but it would be interesting to see it to be tweaked as well.

Some curious enhancements were announced:
Quote:
- Triforce quest – the five Triforce pieces can now be grabbed directly
- Only the remaining three require translated charts instead of eight
- Hero Mode available from the start
- Picto Box has been upgraded
- Upgraded camera could still be used to snap photos of unsuspecting villagers or enemies
- Pictures can go up on Miiverse
- Link can also take funny self-photographs
- Switch between happy, sad, and surprised emotions
- Get the Swift Sail at the auction house after completion of the first dungeon
- No alert via an in-game prompt to signal the special sails availability
- No longer possible to accidentally skip Tingle’s island, as the developers have inserted an introduction to the quirky character into the main quest
- Enhanced first-person camera
- Can now have full movement in that perspective
- Can travel through hallways and shoot arrows like you’re in a FPS

I'm curious as to how a persistent first-person mode will work. Link is so low to the ground that I can't help but think that at least one person will get motion sickness from it.

For a game I have never played and never had huge interest in even when it came out and I was a teenager ( I hadn't grown up with a Zelda game and all my friends only really played T-M rated shooters and whatnot, foolishly thought I was 'too old' for games that looked like this as a teen), this isn't something I would buy a Wii U for specifically, but damn I am really liking the visuals there.

If I ever do pick up a Wii U, I think this is something I would have to pick up.

I thought the same of Pikmin 3, but a few days ago I got it on a whim. It's pretty good after you get past the fact that the graphics aren't anti-aliased.

Nintendo has streamlined this divisive quest to speed up the later sections of Wind Waker. But how much faster is it really? The original required players to find and translate eight IN-credible charts, and seek the assistance of the whimsical Tingle, who would then charge 201 Rupees for each translation. According to a representative on-site, five Triforce pieces can now be grabbed directly, and only the remaining three will require translated charts.

Hooray!

Btw, is that a decal on the controller or actually apart of it?
