This is Microsoft's current Kinect commercial. It is a pile of shit. It somehow manages to be more self-involved and pretentious than Apple's fucking iPad commercials. Sure, Apple referred to its iPad as "magical", an adjective that no one outside of high end theme parks and high end prostitutes have any business using in their advertisements. But at least Apple didn't run a commercial suggesting surgeons should their product. Fucking Christ.

"I don't always bring video game consoles into the OR, but when I do, it's always Dos XBox."

Is that the Pixies I hear as the music in that commercial? I suppose "Where Is My Mind?" is appropriate for Microsoft.

It's definitively a pretentious way to admit that despite inventing the damn thing, they weren't smart enough to create anything but casual games for it.

Also, I wouldn't trust a bomb squad using a Kinect unit. Just no.

I was in an upscale mall in Northern Virginia and I saw a Microsoft Store. It's exactly the same as the Apple Store down the hall, but with more corners in the logos, even more mechanical employees and a really long and frankly impressive multi-display ad screen that stretches across all of the walls. It's trying really hard to take some market share from Apple at their home turf, and I have to say it's a much better attempt than the Sony Style store, which is basically the Apple Store with way too much stuff in it.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

So is it me, or are more commercials trying to go for "a happy version of the beginning of Little Miss Sunshine," these days? What's kind of sad is, that the Kinect is helping technology in ways that's much more impressive than "invisible xylophone."

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

I think the major problem with is ad is that it showcases very impractical uses for the Kinect. The iPad ads, while still a bit pretentious, showcases practical uses for the iPad, like reading recipes while you are cooking, or reading an e-book. If this ad showed some practical things the Kinect could do, it would be a much better ad.

(then again, I can't think of any practical uses for the Kinect other than gaming)
