Most people enjoy their ice creams and milkshakes, but I love their burgers and fries, not to mention all the Hunt's ketchup packs you recieve when ordering from the drive thru.

I really enjoy their super-spicy cheeseburger, though I can't remember the name of it. I worked in a DQ with a limited Brazier as my first above-board job (after spending two years being a carny before that) and the owner was a really cool guy whose Dad owned a bunch of DQs as well. I always felt bad for him because it felt like he was trying to 'live up to the old man' or something, but he would always quiz me on what 60's and 70's songs were playing over the stereo when we were closing up. Now I have to Google it and see if that place is still open; I haven't been back to my hometown or even home state in thirteen years.

Working at Dairy Queen was one of the single worst experiences of my whole life.

From what I understand, it really varies depending on the location and how much you like ice cream. The worst part of the one I worked at in Lancaster County was that we got a lot of Amish customers and they literally smelled like shit in the springtime because they were turning over their fields. I eventually ended up quitting because of a job at a newly-opened Burger King, an incident where I took WAY too many White Crosses, using my Dodge Omni to push shopping carts fast enough to rocket over the concrete parking dividers, and stealing hooch from the state store in the same shopping center. Shit got real.
Also, that DQ I worked at isn't there anymore, but I found my old boss on LinkedIn.

When I lived in San Antonio, there was a Dairy Queen right down the street from my apartment. I spent so much money there in the summer. "Ma'am, it's 110 degrees, please give me ten milkshakes, and pour six of them down my pants."

I recognize that all DQs are different, management is different, all fast food restaurants have shitty management and I shouldn't be surprised, etc etc, but this was my experience working at Dairy Queen:
-First job
-Get yelled at on the first day for not knowing what ingredients go into what sandwiches (I had received no training up to this point)
-Get better after a few days, but then get yelled at for being too slow
-Go as fast as I can while still getting orders right
-Get yelled at for being too slow
-go as fast as physically possible, but my huge anxiety from being yelled at all the time and from idiotic situations* makes me screw up orders all the time
-proceed to get yelled at for screwing up orders
-after a couple of months, become better at job, but am stressed out to the point where I have to use breathing exercises for 20+ minutes before work to not have a panic attack because I dread the place so much
-at around the four-month mark, I get sick before work one morning, and throw up so hard I completely throw my back out to the point where I have to drag myself across the floor to my couch and can't get up after that
-Eventually I call work 45 minutes before my shift starts, I tell them I can't come in (this is the first time I've ever called in, BTW), manager screams at me "YOU KNOW THERE'S A TWO-HOUR CALL-IN POLICY"
-"Um I can't move"
-"WELL I'M JUST GONNA HAVE TO TELL THE OWNERS ABOUT THIS" (*slams phone*)
-I later bring in a doctor's note AND a chiropractor's note, chiropractor's note says I threw out my back so hard he thought I had been in a massive car accident
-get yelled at for calling in sick
-fast-forward, I haven't been put on the schedule for six weeks
-I walk in, get tired of it, quit on the spot and walk out
*There was a lot of dumb bullshit that happened at work, but the first example that comes to mind occurred when I was making two shrimp baskets; after I made the shrimp baskets one of the chunks of battered fat flew out of the fryer onto my hand. It immediately started sizzling and I pleaded with two nearby co-workers to take the baskets so I could get the fat off of my hand before I dropped them. The two co-workers just stood around talking to each other, and after I asked them to take the baskets they just looked at me then continued their conversation. I ended up having to walk out to the lobby and hand the baskets to the customer myself before I ran to the bathroom and washed the fat off of my hand. Still a scar on my hand from that. Again, I don't mean to generalize, but my experience with fast food (and fast food workers) consists of unfathomable douchebags and morons.
With that being said, I refused to even go near Dairy Queen because of the crap they put me through (and managed to convince my entire family and most of my friends to do so as well), but eventually I got over it when I found out the entire staff excluding the owners no longer worked there as of last year.
Their soft-serve ice cream is probably the best I can think of.

My go-to ice cream treat is nothing less than a cookie dough blizzard with chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla. I was also gifted a band card or whatever so that I could show it and get another blizzard of the same size for free (although I usually used it to cover someone else if we went to DQ). Dairy Queen seems to be a hectic enough place depending on location, but it's the best place in my town for getting fast food that tastes better than the usual stuff.
I wish I could eat at Culver's or Freddy's more often so I could get an idea of which one I like best. They're all kind of similar to me, although I've decided I'm not a huge fan of the steakburgers from either of the latter.

The blizzards at Dairy Queen are delicious, but I wish they didn't have like twelve trillion calories. I think Culver's probably has better ice cream, objectively speaking, but DQ is where I go when I want a conventional ice cream cone. As for Culver's burgers, I kind of have the same feelings towards them as I do towards McDonald's; any enjoyment I may derive from the taste is negated by the overwhelming stomach pain I feel when eating their food.

I've had many jobs over the years, and some of them I ended up leaving because of abusive staff. The job market sucks because you can't figure out what kind of people you are going to work with before getting hired.

Oh, fuck, that picture of Whataburger is making me upset. For the most part, I'm really glad not to be in San Antonio any more, but I sure do miss Whataburger. So amazing.

That flamethrower burger is pretty good. I love the chicken fingers with the gravy, though.

Yet some are striking to get $15 per hour, while many college graduates don't even get that much. Kind of hard to strike when you can be replaced by anyone off the street.

Am I the only person that hates job interviews for fast food jobs? Five years ago I was trying to get into the job market for shit like fast food, and they kept asking me things like "What is the greatest thing you ever did?". Bitch, I wanna cook burgers for a few bucks, this is not an ambitious job, stop with these questions. Maybe I could now easily get a job without these kinds of interviews now that I've been working better jobs, if I ever get desperate and need to get a worse job than I have now.

Confirmed. There was one in my college town, though I never ate there during my entire enrollment. Revisited the town to visit some friends last summer, we went there for dinner, and in between bite after bite of excellence I pondered all the other good things in the world that I had missed out on.

I've always been fond of the Oreo blizzard, but a Freddy's recently opened up some distance away. I have to say, Freddy's beats the pants off of Steak n' Shake; we like to call the one around here "Steak n' Wait" because it takes forever to get served.
