""South Park: The Game" is a role-playing adventure in which players explore the fictional Colorado town and befriend the show's protagonists, Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman. The game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, which has designed critically-acclaimed role-playing games in the "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" and "Neverwinter Nights" franchises.
With the new game, Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the power duo behind "South Park" and the Broadway hit "The Book of Mormon," should want to erase their last foray into console gaming from people's memories. Acclaim Entertainment's "South Park," a first-person-shooter game released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, computer and original PlayStation, was panned by critics.
Stone and Parker, along with their regular voice actors, provided the 13-year-old game's soundtrack, but it was criticized for being repetitive. With today's more advanced hardware and direct guidance from the creators, they have a shot at producing a better product. A spokeswoman for Comedy Central and South Park Digital Studios didn't immediately return a request for comment.
"Matt and Trey are arguably two of the most important comedic talents of their generation," THQ executive Danny Bilson said in a statement. "Bringing their vision of South Park to the interactive space is a dream-come-true."

Were all the South Park games not received as being pretty mediocre?
I have South Park Rally and it's not exactly amazing.

As username supports, it looks like it could be pretty worthwhile.
Also, peek at Kenny's reflection if you haven't already.

All I want is Crab People!!!
I am so fucking excited for this one. They really need a game that immerses you into the South Park universe and I think this just might be it.

This does sound pretty cool, but I can't help but be a little skeptical about this because it's an Obsidian game. They write good stores and usually have fail extension customization in their games, but make games that are even buggier than Bethesda games. All I can hope for is that they do a better job of dealing with that than they normally do.

Obsidian Entertainment specializes in well done, but technically buggy sequels to games. As far as their original content goes, Alpha Protocol sucked. I am not sure about this one...

I hope Mecha Streisand is in the game as a secret boss.
Also, Catata Fish needs to narrate the prologue and epilogue.

"The story will begin with players joining a live-action RPG with neighborhood kids, which will then turn into a real adventure. The combat system will mirror Paper Mario, weapon augmentation will draw from Final Fantasy's Materia, and the levels are all illustrated and animated by hand, in a completely 2D format, devoid of any real-life hamsters. Parker and Stone say there will be a summoning system, but that they can't talk about it yet."

Mecha Streisand will be the new Emerald Weapon. She'll have a million hit points and take 20 minutes to beat.

Sounds like Paper Mario has influenced Trey and Matt gameplay-wise, and "reflex widgets" such as timed offense and defense are present.
"Jew" is also an archetype class of its own!
Kotaku and Game Informer have more details.

^ Dey took der jobs! Seriously, I feel bad for the guys who got laid off. Its terrible how many times that happens in the video game industry.
So this means that the rpg is still in the works? Good. At least there is that.

THQ's recent financial worries, coupled with losses in Obsidian's development teams, will mean that the foul-mouthed kids of South Park will not be gracing our screens in 2012.
According to THQ's recently released year end financial statements, South Park: The Stick of Truth is now set to appear in early 2013. |

Yes, this does look fucking amazing. Did you see how they actually had Matt and Trey introduce it at Microsoft's keynote? That was a nice touch.
