I keep trying to find some insightful way of sharing my disgust, but every paragraph in that story just got me more and more angry and disheartened. Just a few weeks ago, I saw a very popular topic on a forum that I lurk on that expressed the assertion that men were actually becoming oppressed in the modern world, and there were over 300 replies that were pretty much in agreement over the fact that sexual harassment and sitcoms where the dad is dumb are proof of said oppression.

Then you hear vile, inhumane shit like this, and realize that as far as sex relations go, our male ancestors endowed themselves with-and passed down to us- many privileges. If we were not exploiting these privileges, we decried those who wanted equal footing in the world as those who would infringe upon our rights. This is a very worldwide mindset, though obviously more archaic in some cultures (as going by this story) than it is in others. If we want to end tragedies like this, we have to realize that treating others as equals is going to have to mean distinguishing between rights and privileges, and realizing that "culture" or "worldviews" are not even remotely valid as excuses for this type of thing.
