"DALLAS (December 5, 2011)—Lauren Scruggs, 23, of Plano was in the hospital Monday after losing her hand when she walked into the propeller of a small airplane following a flight to view Christmas lights.

A spokeswoman at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas said Scruggs was in serious condition Monday.

Scruggs is the founder and editor of LoLo Magazine.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the accident happened Saturday night at a private airport in the McKinney area, about 30 miles northeast of Dallas.

A family spokeswoman, Janee Harrell, said Scruggs had just gotten off the private plane after a flight to see holiday lights.

Harrell told The Associated Press that Scruggs lost her left hand in the accident, and suffered head, brain and shoulder injuries, as well.

A message on the CaringBridge website says Scruggs underwent reconstructive surgery on her face and shoulder.

“We are currently praying for healing on the left eye and brain,” the message said."

Goddamn. After losing a hand, head, brain and shoulder injuries on TOP of walking into a propeller like a dumbass, I'd just rather them pull the plug.

They may as well take out one of her eyes and give her a hook. There's only one thing she can be at this point now.

Pretty horrific story. I'm usually the first to laugh when people injure/kill themselves in seemingly stupid ways, but whenever I hear a story about a woman being disfigured in such a way it saddens me. Somehow it seems more cruel than if she had simply been killed.

Ahh, I heard about this story. You have to remember this happened at like 9:30 at night. She was walking in the darkness and probably didn't realize how far out the propellers stretched. The article I read also mentioned that the pilot of the plane probably should have done more to keep her safe, like not let her get out of his plane and walk around in the pitch dark when his propellers were still going.

Regardless, this is sad because it was so easily avoidable.

It's not the pilots fault that people will throw up the ladders to debark the passengers before it's safe. I'm thinking he shut the propellers off before she even got off the plane, as you know, she's not in a thousand pieces right now, so the slowing propellers got her in the face as her dumbass decided to take a stroll in the dark around a loud airplane propeller and not just fucking wait a minute for the plane to stop making loud WHIIIIRRRR noises.

Did anyone see the clip where the family said something about how (something) is going to propel her forward in the healing process? I can't remember the exact quote but I swear I heard them say it, I saw it on the local news while I was down in Texas.

I wondered where you were. I thought your greatest fear of having a zombie munch on you came true. Glad it didn't.
