I recently got a tumblr at http://the-excel.tumblr.com with the intent of replacing my front page at http://whatistheexcel.com with it. I want to replace only my WordPress blog on the root of my domain without having the user seeing the tumblr URL but not lose my hosting. Pointing my domain's nameservers to tumblr is out of the question. The best solution I can find is to make a page with nothing but a full-size iframe, which I did at http://whatistheexcel.com/test but I want all external links on tumblr to open in the parent window, which I can't figure out. So every link opens in this iframe and the URL is fixed at http://whatistheexcel.com/test/index.htm. Is there a way to fully replace a page with another without having to resort to a simple URL redirect or do security practices forbid that sort of thing?

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

The correct way to do this is with an A-record...

I would use a subdomain instead of your primary.

Just have blog.whatistheexcel.com setup that way.

I didn't want to use a subdomain. I wanted this to completely replace the front page. Maybe one day I'll come up with some kind of portal in its place?

Anyway, I resorted to the iframe. The last thing holding me back was that links didn't open in the parent window, which I fixed by manually adding "parent=_top" to every <a> tag in the theme source. Thanks for the help anyway.

[Edit]Apparently I can't set an A-record for my domain because the DNS for it isn't hosted with GoDaddy, where I registered it. I have to change its nameservers to GoDaddy and lose my hosting at Dreamhost anyway, and since I don't own the account that hosts my website, that's out of the question.

Ok... this just got all kinds of kludgy. Too many workarounds needed to make this all make sense. What is wrong with Wordpress?

Nothing, actually. I just did some research and found that tumblr emphasizes quantity, which I decided is better for me because I can't be bothered to write long posts at the pace a blog demands. Hopefully it will encourage me to give people a reason to actually visit it. If that doesn't work out, I still have the WordPress backed up somewhere.
