My brother-in-law was in a similar position. He had never owned a Nintendo product until the Wii. Let me tell you, he and his wife had the same reaction to current games, however the virtual console and one or two games made a huge difference. If you don't own the old games and didn't play them, how can you knock them? They are so damn good.
For me, I have the systems (except for a N64) and I refuse to believe that anyone could enjoy video games as a whole and then go and bash what the VC has to offer.
Now, for those who already own all of those games and have played through all of the major Nintendo releases for the Wii... I can understand that the system feels a little flat right now, however that is more due to quantity of games over time. Nintendo simply didn't release enough games over the life of the system.

I will argue that Nintendo itself released enough games, but with so little thirdparty support, there will really never be enough Nintendo-games to fill all the gaps. I love the Wii, its by far my favorite current-gen console, and my favorite Nintendo-console since the Snes. However, Nintendo needs to work on their support. I don't know why thirdparties hate Nintendo, but Nintendo needs to fix it. And of course release their best games in all markets, and their next console have the potential to be even better. Oh, and fuck this article, he bought iCarly 2 so he deserves to burn in hell (or at least he does not deserve to enjoy video games.)

This guy doesn't focus on talking about the scant few good Wii games there are. Just some casual gamer blabbing about some shit Wii Sports or Kinect. meh.

This guy is a moronic autistic fatass and all of his writing reads like shit and is filled with typos. Who paid him 450 dollars to write anything, save for equally autisic, back slapping self congratulatory hideous neckbearded retards like himself from some atari circlejerk website?
I'd pay him 450 to shut the hell up.

Look man, he didn't like "Twilight Prinicess" or "Elabits" or Mario Galaxy. I guess there just wasn't enough Wii Bowling them. And then he tried Super Mario Bros. on the Virtual Console, and it was fun, but then it got too hard.
This is a grown man who somehow got PAID to write about video games and SMB1 is too hard for him. Like, I guess the "maze" castles are pretty tough if you don't realize that they're mazes that you need to solve, but the rest of the game shouldn't be too hard for someone who spent his childhood playing "better" games.

There are three if you count the final castle. I wouldn't though, because that one is super fucking easy. Well, the maze part is easy. That Hammer Brother right before Bowser can be a bitch to get by if you're not powered up.

This basically sums up the point in the article at which he loses all credibility as a person who enjoys videogames.
Also I looked up that Atari ST game he compared to Zelda. I fucking hate the first Zelda game and I still think it's better than that piece of crap. It's one of those first person dungeon games that there are a thousand of where you interact with dumb objects on the floor and pull switches. I guess that's a lot of fun if you're into navigating perfectly square rooms that all look identical while not really doing a whole lot.

Wait, this guy writes article about games and still buys shit games and shovelware? Then he proceeds to bitch about it? Maybe he doesn't read any gaming articles. What a douche.
