NES Challenge 2009.
It's going to be very similar to the previous two installments. 10 games 10 weeks.
Requirements: VirtuaNES (NO EXCEPTIONS) Everyone needs to use the same emulator. It makes it easier on me and it makes this whole thing run a lot smoother. There will be save files and in some cases Game Genie files you will have to download. All that will be explained in detail when it arises.
Sign-ups: If you want to play sign-up. If you are only going to play when you feel like it DON'T. We had 50 people sign-up for the SNES Challenge only to have around 20 people by week 3.
A new rule for this one. Results won't be known til the end of the whole challenge. This will help avoid people quiting because they feel they have no chance of winning. I would ask that you don't share your scores or videos until after the whole thing is over. I will post all the winning videos at the end as well.
So to recap...Get VirtuaNES. When the challenge starts download the files provided and then submit your entry.
Please submit only 1 entry per week, and please name your files like this when you send them..."Douche#1.vmv" Don't include the name of the game or anything else, just your User Name and what week in that order.
Syd already has all his challenges in and his will start first, alternating. So if a game you really hate comes in on an odd week you can yell at him.
Signing up is easy, post in the thread that you want to play. Don't just say "sweet or cool" Say either "I'm in" or "Sign me up". This challenge will most likely start on June 5th. So you have 2 weeks and 2 days to sign-up.
P.S. Good to be back.

Although I will unfortunately not be taking part in this grand undertaking, may I suggest the Legend of Luigi Hack of Super Mario World as one of the challenges?
It's one of the few hacks that is actually a whole game and not just some half assed sprite swap with untested unplayable levels. Plus it's harder than all hell and sure to cause much controller throwing and inventive cursing.

I was just mentioning the use of grand hacks in IRC chat, like the innovative SMB 3 one, or the classy Zelda hack.

Badass. I don't have time for this round unfortunately, but I'll be watching and enjoying. Good luck to all the participants!
I do have a question though, D. Does the new rule mean we won't be seeing any vids from the challenge until the whole thing is done? I understand the reason for it, but it takes a little bit of the excitement out of spectator-ing.

I know I dropped out of the last tournament, but I have been round Sydlexia a lot lately, so I'll join. PM'd, by any chance, when the next step in the tournament starts?

Douche, will the challenges be limited to about 5 minutes or so?

The reason I want to keep the results hidden is because A.) Exactly what you said. If we can get spectators to turn into participants awesome. B.) I don't want people with egos saying, oh Im down by 50 points so Im just gonna quit. The tentative start date is June 5. None of these challenges should take longer than 10 minutes to complete.

For spectating, just let GP post his videos or something. They're quite entertaining, and people completely new to the games could actually have a possible challenge to do.

Hah, winning is fun, but for some of us it isn't an option when it comes to NES games. I'm glad that I at least bring some comic relief.
