Three days ago I got a hair cut. I tend to wear my hair short and clean.

A number 2 buzzer on the sides and the top hair at about 3/4" in length. I put some stuff in it so that it doesn't look fuzzy and the front sticks up a little. Not spiked, just styled.

Well... my fucking haircut fooled me. I'm a short guy at 5'7". I look in the mirror and see my face and front profile. I never have any reason to see the top of my head... until last night.

I was putting away a hand held mirror my wife had left on the counter top and I saw my reflection from the sink mirror in the hand held one. I saw the top of my head. Noooo!!!

My hair has started to thin out to a point where I cannot wear any form of product in now because it makes it look thinner and gives me a baldness pattern.

So... now I have this hair that is short and fuzzy and I need a new look. I'm not ready for the Jason Stathem haircut quite yet, so I am going to head to a real salon and see if there is a different haircut I can get that would look better on me.

For what it is worth, I have always known I would go bald. Father, Father's father, Father's father's father. Mother's father, mother's father's father, mother's father's fathers' father, mother's father's mother's father... everyone... they are all fucking bald. I have no chance.

So I promised myself I would never do a comb over or fake it with products. I just never thought about this process of losing the hair. I still have plenty, just not enough... in between sucks!

*runs his hand through his thick hair*
At your age, going bald isn't that bad.
Just accept it or you'll be like this guy who comes to where I work. He's completely bald on the top, but he grows out the hair he still has, which is only around the sides of his head. It just looks like hell.

My father and grandfather had lost pretty much all their top-of-the-head hair by 30. I'm 22 and it's starting. There's quite a gap between my side-hair and front-hair (however they're called), so I have to keep my hair short or it looks really ugly.

My father looks like that guy you have at work, Hacker. When he wears a cap it looks nice. When he doesn't it looks kinda funny. Razz

On my mother's side, there's diabetes instead. I prefer going bald myself.

How old are you?

I first noticed a bit of receding around the temples when I was 24-25. At first it was one of the most ungodly depressing moments of my life. But then I started taking notice of other guy's hairlines, and realized that most guys in their 20's have it to one degree or another. I'm 30 now, and it's gotten a little bit worse, but not too much. When my hair gets longer the recession stands out a bit more, but you wouldn't look at me and notice it too much. My older male relatives are a mixed bag, so it's hard to say where I'll end up.

It sucks, but there's not much you can do unless you're willing to go the Rogaine/Propecia route. I briefly tried Rogaine, but I didn't like the feel/smell of it (didn't use it long enough to say whether it works or not). And I've heard that Propecia can mess with your hormones, and the incidence is higher than the 2% they advertise.

My advice is to just do your best to take it like a man. It depends on your overall look, but shaving your head could be a good option.

I have the same problem GP. My hair has been thin for a long time. I have 4 or 5 gray hairs (extremely easy to spot) and I have been receeding for as long as I can remember. I have thought about rogaine and other alternatives but never really pulled the trigger. I'm 5'11 so I don't really have many people looking at the top of my head. But I did the same thing you did and was like "HOLY FUCK!"

I'm 28 and usually keep my hair fairly short and have been flirting with the clippers for a while. Usually sport the #1 fade with about 1' on the top. I have all my drivers licenses from the beginning and my god it's like you can see it happening Sad

Same issue. I'm 29 and my forehead is slowly getting bigger.

I'm twenty two and my hair line is rapidly receding. It's been going on for a year or two now and I'll more then likely be bald in the next two years or so. I've just accepted it. I hope I look halfway decent bald. All you can really do is roll with it, sorry it's happening to you though.

My brother is lucky in that both my father and grandfather have full heads of hair.

My opinion is just shave it off now. Embrace the baldness! Then it's a choice and you've can get used to it.

I love my hair, I try to grow it out as much as possible, but I know the inevitable. It runs in my family, that I'm going to go bald by the time I hit thirty two. That being the case, I'm going to completely shave it off and then bic it as soon as I have that bald spot.

Yeah, when I turned 25 I noticed a bunch of grays pop up. Now two years later I notice significantly more as well as my hairline receding. I am bummed.

Thirty-two and loving my full head of hair. Must be my Irish roots. Lots of baldness on my father's side. Mother's side only 2 males, one balding at 50, one passed away with a full head of hair at 70.

I think I dodged the bullet on this one because even though my father was bald, one of his brothers and his father weren't plus my mother's father had full hair all his life. And isn't it from your mother's side that determines it?

Going bald can suck if it is not your style. My brother has a bald spot and thinning hair and he is about a year and a half older than I am. I am 27 and have a bit of a receding hairline but a full head of hair otherwise, with a bit of white(definitely not grey) here and there. I did go through a period of extreme stress a few years back where I got a serious streak of white going on, very noticeable. I cut my hair short and it really is not there anymore, so I got lucky in that I don't look like a human skunk now, lol.

Not necessarily. It's not on a sex chromosome. Sex chromosome genes are the only ones that you only get from your mom (if you are male). That doesn't mean it's limited to only your mom's side. Your genes are carried by both parents so both family histories are factors.

Don't get me started on the 20 random wire-like gray hairs that I pluck out every once in a while. I can deal with that.

My forehead has had the same hairline for about the last 10-12 years. It is a high, slightly pushed back one. In other words, I have looked like I would go bald for a long time, but it never receded or thinned. About a year ago, I noticed some motion on the hairline going back.

Here is the thing. I have poor vision, so I wear glasses.

This is not the look I want:

I could deal with looking like this though:

Of course, my guess is that I will end up more like this:

And honestly, looking like David Cross would bother me.

My hairline started receding as early as 15 for me, but I'd worn my hair long for so long, it never was noticeable. Then, when I turned 18, my senior year of high school, they put an early form of the dress code in effect. I missed out on school uniforms (thankfully) because it didn't happen until the year after I graduated, but they were getting the student body ready for it my senior year, which meant shirts had to be tucked in, you had to wear a school ID, and... you had to have a reasonable haircut. Mine gets cut off, and that's when I notice. It wasn't a huge deal as my hair is pretty goddamn thick otherwise, but once I started climbing into my 20s, it got worse. Now I'm slightly balding up top on the front, and I do have a bald spot in the back, but the sides and the extreme back of my head are still as thick as ever.

Surprisingly, I'm OK with it, but there are times I may have the vanity in me take over and start gasping, "FUCK! I'm no longer attractive..." Thankfully, my hair is thick enough that even with the thinning, you can't really tell I'm balding unless I'm in a bright ass light, but I can no longer spike my hair or do anything of that effect with it because then it DOES become much more noticeable.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas.

That is a long story, but it ends with the answer "no". I might be a candidate for vision corrective surgery. I have an eye appointment tomorrow and plan on asking.

I have a ton of gray hairs and I just see them as signs of distinction, you look at my head under light at the right angle and it's like a wave of sea foam! As long as my hair doesn't fall out, it can turn any color it wants.
