I heard that Syd Lexia just started Persona 3, so here's some news for those of us who have already moved on.

Quote:
First, the game everyone was expecting due to the recent teaser splash site, a remake of Persona 4. Atlus is bringing the PlayStation 2 title to PlayStation Vita as Persona 4 The Golden. This new version adds a number of new features:

  • A new character named Mary
  • 1.5 times the voice of the PS2 version
  • Wireless support for calling on others to help you when you're about to die in a dungeon.
  • Other elements that fans of the original have heavily requested
  • New opening anime with new song from Shouji Meguro
  • New animation movies

A release is set for Spring 2012.

A bit more surprising is Persona 4 The Ultimate In Mayonaka Arena. Atlus is teaming up with Arc System Works for a 2D fighter that will be released first for arcades in Spring 2012, then for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Summer 2012.

Developed by the team behind Arc's BlazBlue fighting series, the Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena has a new story that takes place two yeas after the events of Persona 4. Characters from Persona 4 and Persona 3 will feature in the game.

Famitsu also has a few preliminary details on the next numbered entry in the Persona series, Persona 5. Basic preparations for the game's development have been completed, with the usual staff members in place. That includes Katsura Hashino as director, Shigenori Soejima as character designer, and Shouji Meguro as main composer.

Note that the new female character may or may not be a female-centered alternate storyline.

Fighting game? I like fighting games.

Also, Arc reacquired the rights to Guilty Gear in May. I wonder where this leaves BlazBlue, since it was basically just Bizarro Guilty Gear.

Guilty Gear vs. BlazBlue, obviously.

Oh god, I may just have to get a Vita now. And a P4 fighting game could be a lot of fun. I'd love to see Chie's feet vs. Kanji's steel chair.

I want to see how they handle characters that primarily attack with projectile weapons. Also, Koromaru confirmed for top tier.

Also also, I hope they'll consider putting in Persona 2 characters just for that tiny chance that we can fight Hitler in a fighting game.

I don't think there is a feasable way to make me any happier than I am right now. Persona 4 is one of my favorite games of all time, and a fighting game from ARC will make it that much sweeter.

I have a PSP, and I think there is a few decent games for it, however, Sony's firstpartygames just have no interest for me, so I am not lining up to buy a Vita in the next couple of years. Would be awesome if this was on 3DS instead, but I guess I can always play the PS2-version.

Some more news:
Quote:
Speaking with Famitsu, the game's producer, Arc's Toshimichi Mori, said that he was shocked when Atlus came to them with the offer to work on the title. The BlazBlue team includes many fans of the Persona series, so their motivation for the project was very high, he said.

The Persona team didn't want to just have the BlazBlue team develop the game for them. Instead, they wanted the game to be a joint development project. According to Mori, game's director Takumi Iguchiya (whom you'll recognize as the lead programmer on the BlazBlue series) is working closely with the Persona team.

In addition to the commentary Mori, we have a list of modes that appears in Famitsu:

* Arcade Mode: Face off against CPU opponents while following the story
* Story Mode: Delve deeper into the arcade mode's story. This will be exclusive to the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
* Score Attack Mode: Face off against CPU opponents to get the high score
* VS Mode: Face off against a CPU or human opponent
* Online Battle: Face off against players throughout the world in online combat (I imagine that can be taken as confirmation of an international release...)

The game will include original stories for all its included characters, which come from both Persona 4 and Persona 3. The overarching story is set two months after the events of Persona 4. The characters appear on a fighting program called "P-1 Grand Prix."

The Ultimate in Mayonaka will be released first to arcades in Spring 2012. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will follow in the summer.

So we don't have to worry about derailment or anything. Also, best comment from that post:

Wait. A storyline in which a bunch of unrelated characters are brought into the television to fight each other? Where have I heard that story before?

Some more notes from rpgamer.com

* One of the new cutscenes will be when the Investigation team takes a break at the Amagi Inn.
* Both 3G and Wi-Fi support which includes the ability to send messages to other players when your characters are about to die in a dungeon. How this works and if this is the limit of the online features has yet to revealed. This new version will also features new events, new personas, and more character outfits.
* The team is striving to make this as close to the PlayStation 2 version as possible. The game was originally planned for the PlayStation Portable, but the development staff did not want to have to make the same cuts they did with Persona 3 Portable, such as dropping exploration of the world map. With the move to PlayStation Vita, the team aims to make something better than the original version of the game.
* The only other detail revealed is that the new title will be using a new internally-built engine. The team will not be reusing the third party engine Gamebryo, as was used for Catherine. Hashino ended the interview by saying not to expect this new game for quite some time.

If Rise isn't playable, I don't know what I'll do.

Also, they should put in Vincent as a joke character. He's technically a P3 character.

So apparently the fighter's story involves Teddy holding a tournament and inviting his fellow Persona users to compete. Somehow Aigis helps out too.

Some bigger screenshots.

It never really dawned on me before, but a Persona/Jojo's Bizarre Adventure crossover game could be a lot of fun.

But why? What reason would he have to have them all fight to the death? It's not like [a spoiler related to Persona 3] is at stake or something.

BlazBlue's gameplay is more like street fighter (about area control and set ups)
so it'll leave them with an almost completely different fighting game again

also can i just like
have sex with the whole idea of p4 already jesus

I'm not feeling it. It doesn't look like something I could get into. Either the players didn't make it look as good as they could have, or the game is just a spot fest.

I'm glad to see they managed to work in the All Out Attack mechanic into the game. Something I just noticed that bugs me a little is the personas being used are NOT the ones they should have if this takes place after P4 (assuming Souji has maxed out social links with everyone).

Reminds me of JoJo, and, considering the game mechanics of Persona 4, I'm not really surprised. But yeah, the people playing don't really seem to know what they're doing, and that usually makes the game look unresponsive.

Rise is not playable. You'll have to wait for P4A: Slash Reload Core
