news all over twitter:

(Reuters) - Silicon Valley legend Steve Jobs on Wednesday resigned as chief executive of Apple Inc in a stunning move that ended his 14-year reign at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage.
Apple shares were suspended from trade before the announcement. They had gained 0.7 percent to close at $376.18.
The pancreatic cancer survivor and industry icon, who has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition since January 17, will be replaced by COO and longtime heir apparent Tim Cook. |

That's really shocking.
I didn't know about his condition though. Time to retire and buy a continent to live on.

I'm really making myself feel ill for even thinking this, but the first thing that comes to my mind with this news is, I hope Apple has now passed it's prime. Nothing against Jobs and I wish him the best, but god damn I'm a bitter person when it comes to Apple.

Sad to say, but I predict we'll be seeing him in the dead celebrities thread before long. Hopefully his job wasn't the thing that was keeping him going.

And he's still on the board of directors, so it's not like he's just abandoning Apple or anything. Still, I know it's wrong, but I kind of hope Apple (and most other companies) tank pretty hardcore during the fiscal insanity that's going to be coming the next few years. I'd buy something from them if they weren't charging me Made in the USA prices for a Chinese piece of garbage.

They actually finished the day up almost 1%, we'll see what happens tomorrow when trading opens back up. Really wish I would have bought Apple stock in 2002, at $7 a share.

Oh, for the record. I don't hate Steve as a person, and I really hope he will get better (or at least not feel much pain if getting better isn't the option) I'm just happy he's stepping down, it might leave room for Cook to royally mess up

NOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCK NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
In all seriousness, I hope that Steve is okay for the rest of his life. I also hope that the new CEO can steer Apple in a good direction (bringing those insane prices down would be a start)
Also, fuck you, Hacker.
Also, because I just have to do this:
Sent from my iPod.

Yeah. Think before posting, Hack. He's not retiring because he doesn't want to work; he's retiring because he's probably going to be dead soon.

Looks like Steve Jobs isn't resigning entirely:
| Quote: |
In a surprise announcement Wednesday evening, Apple's Board of Directors announced that Steve Jobs is resigning as CEO of the company. Apple's Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cook, has been named Jobs' successor and plans to begin taking over as CEO effective immediately.
"Steve’s extraordinary vision and leadership saved Apple and guided it to its position as the world’s most innovative and valuable technology company," Apple Board member and Genetech chairman Art Levinson said in a statement. "Steve has made countless contributions to Apple’s success, and he has attracted and inspired Apple’s immensely creative employees and world class executive team. In his new role as Chairman of the Board, Steve will continue to serve Apple with his unique insights, creativity and inspiration." |

An iBrain would be neat. But I would want to know the specifications of it. Oh, and the price.

Him stepping down is still going to hurt Apple, this is where my excitement comes from.
Him on the verge of death... Well that just sucks... He's an intelligent man who accomplished something many people can only dream of
