GP HAPPY!

http://www.google.com/webfonts/v2

This is awesome. They host the fonts, they provide the API. All fonts are open source and free to use!

Hey, this is pretty neat. Thanks for sharing.

Not trying to steal the thunder, but dafont also has many free fonts under multiple categories.

The point isn't free fonts. The point is free web fonts with an API for hosting!

My guess is that most of you guys simply don't understand that at this point there are only a few cross platform fonts that are available on the internet. In order to use other fonts, you used to have to do all sorts of tricks, and they would only work in a few browsers.

Modern browsers and CSS has allowed for cross platform methods of sharing fonts. Unfortunately, the fonts we use most often are not free and are not hosted anywhere. Also the ones we have that are free aren't on everyone's computers.

This is why Google's new site is awesome.

They put the free fonts on their site. They make an easy way to get them into web based applications and sites. They don't require downloads to function.
