Pretty good list, nothing I can really complain about. Mostly PC titles but I guess thats to be expected.
[SPOILER:01697b292e]Happy to see Grim Fandango at #1. Definitely my favorite point and click game, maybe my favorite PC game period.
I would have included Beyond Good and Evil but I guess they consider that more of an action game.[/SPOILER:01697b292e]
The complete list: http://www.adventuregamers.com/article/id,1401/p,22

I dunno about this list. I don't recognize a lot of these games, and King's Quest at 75? It launched what was arguably the most famous adventure game series in the golden age of adventure games.
Nice to see Hotel Dusk on the list. It's weird to see Trace Memory higher than it though. Trace Memory was fun enough, but it felt more like a DS tech demo than a fully developed game.
Good to see Ghost Trick on there.
Last Window! Because the list is British. I've been meaning to import this. You know, maybe the list's British-ness is why King's Quest is so low, and why only two King's Quest games made the list. If I did this list, at least 50% of it would be Sierra, LucasArts, and both Trilobyte games.
Would have liked to have seen 999 on this list, but it wasn't released in the UK.

I like the fact that it has a lot of games I haven't heard of, gives me ideas for when I get a new computer. The really dark ones are what I'm itching to play.

I read this one a while back, and it's funny how commenters have a really difficult time finding omissions/flaws in numeration beyond "#x1 should switch with #x2" or something. It recognizes the classics, pulls out some underdogs, and gives nods to good modern games.

The only game I would have moved up was Syberia. That game was perfect. Grim Fandango and Syberia are almost equal in my mind.

Portal/Portal 2? Those aren't adventure games!
And Day of the Tentacle at 6 below Riven and Broken Sword? Sorry, but that's bullshit.
It is good to see Hotel Dusk on there though; very underrated game.

There was a directors cut made. It came out for iOS i believe...

It is a remake but there is also new stuff in the game as well. If you are interested you can get it on gog.com for pretty cheap. They were actually giving it out for free for a while. I can't remember if it still is though.
I agree Woodzy. Broken Sword is a good game but i think it should have been lower. I actually recognise quite a lot on this list.
I remember 7th Guest it was fucking hard. I could barely get past the cake puzzle at the start.

I've never played Day of the Tentacle, 7th Guest or Under A Steel Sky. I will, though. I won't call myself a real gamer until I do.

The others are OK, but Day of the Tentacle is an absolute must for any adventure game fan, or Maniac Mansion fan especially.

You can easily run DotT through ScummVM.
7th Guest i imagine would be pretty difficult to get running on new computers. On saying that i played it first on the Mac back in the day so i dunno. I think i may have the disc floating about i should really check!
Beneath a Steel Sky is free on gog.com i am nearly certain.

I appreciate the effort, but I'm not interested in GOG. If you guys say Broken Sword is good, I'll probably snag the DS version.

Also, the episodes of Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, which is console-exclusive to the PS3, are also available on Mac/PC. And point and click adventures were meant to be played with a mouse. |
I'm sorry . I really don't care how people play Broken Sword, as long as they play it. But if there are some PC games you've been meaning to catch up on, GOG is a great service. Games are typically optimized for full screen/modern OS's, patched to the most stable version, and DRM free.

Myst or Myst IV should be higher than Riven and this list is 100% garbage without 9 on it. I almost enjoy that game more than the Myst series.

Greg, I only said that because you were going to buy a PS3 game.
Sad to see SBCG4AP not on the list.

I say that because everybody talks about how 7th Guest is so unique and the first to do this or that. Under A Steel Sky is a critical darling, that's why I want to try that.

7th guest is being released on GoG.com in the next week or so for $9,99. Just a heads up.
