THIS is what should have been packaged with the 25th Anniversary Wii.
Description from Press Release:
Quote:
The games included in the Super Mario All-Stars collection are Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. Each game features the enhanced graphics and updated sound from the Super NES™ Super Mario All-Stars collection, and all four can be played on the Wii system using one of several controllers: the Wii Remote™ controller, Classic Controller™, Classic Controller Pro™ or the Nintendo GameCube™ controller.
Also included is a Super Mario History soundtrack CD, a compilation of memorable music from the Mario franchise. Containing classic theme songs and fun sound effects from the original Super Mario Bros. game all the way up to this year's acclaimed Super Mario Galaxy™ 2 game, this special disc also marks the first official release of the "Super Mario Bros. Ground Theme," widely recognized as one of the most famous pieces of video game music in history.
Rounding out the Super Mario All-Stars collection is a 32-page Super Mario History booklet featuring interviews, behind-the-scenes details and rare concept art. Fans from every generation can enjoy firsthand insights into the beginnings of Mario, illustrated with candid photos and never-before-seen design sketches. Together with the game software and soundtrack, it's the ultimate tribute to a unique game series.

I don't know why they didn't at least throw Super Mario World, Super Mario World 2 and/or Super Mario 64 into the mix. I don't know if they could have fit sunshine in as well, but if they could then they should have.
Then, I may have considered purchasing this.

Only for the pack-in special. The original SMAS didn't have World.

Yeah, I agree with Andrew. It would be a lot cooler if they updated All-Stars a bit. Still neat-o, though.

Hmmm, it would be cool just to have. How much you think they are going to sell it for?

While I agree that it would be awesome to have, I'm just not getting anything that I already had. At least with the original All Stars, you got the "Lost Levels". At least give us something that we haven't gotten before such as "Mario & Wario".

Yeah, this seems just like a money grab to me. Why buy this when you already have SMAS on SNES? Its the same thing.

I think this is geared more towards collectors and Mario fans. Its the same game we have been sold at least 4 times, but maybe if we would stop buying them Nintendo would stop making them. I think its pretty cool and ordered one just for the hell of it. I would rather have the hard copy of the game than download it via VC. It is already out in Japan, and they just announced its coming to the US. You can preorder on Amazon for 29.99.

So for less than the cost of a third of sonic 4, we get four Mario games and a bunch of booklets and CDs and shit, on a hard copy.

They should have have thrown in the original versions of the games as well, not to mention the special Mario 25 SMB1 ROM hack that's included on the Japanese Collector's Edition Red Wii.

That would be even more pointless, as all of them are on the VC.

Fucking this. People can talk shit about it all they want, but at least you are getting a hard copy of something instead of just a file on your system.

Yeah, but Sonic 4 is a new game with actual developmental costs. This is a ROM running off emulation software. Eight years ago, for the same $29.99, you could have gotten Sonic Mega Collection, which featured ELEVEN full retail games. The bar is constantly being lowered, people. You're paying more money for less content.
And at least Sonic 4 is something you'll actually play. With the Mario thing, you paying $30 for a nice booklet and a music CD, and a crappy game that only an idiot would enjoy.

That's a decent deal for $30 though. and FNJ, I do believe you mean for two thirds of the price of sonic 4.

I truly don't care about All-Stars the game, I never enjoyed it. Sonic 4 just seems like a rip off to me. All the extras that come with All-Stars will add up to more enjoyment for me personally. $30 for this bonus stuff, or $50 for a purty lookin Sega Genesis game. It's sort of a no brainer for people who enjoy Mario more than Sonic. This is just my opinion, I'm not gonna call someone an idiot for thinking otherwise.
