Miracle Kidz announced today that it is developing Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari 2 for release as a home console title this summer and as a PC online title in 2012.
The original Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari was released for the Famicom in 1989. International releases followed under the names River City Ransom and Street Gangs.
The new version is being developed by staff members who worked on the original, but Miracle Kidz has also selected core players to take part in development.

Will it be a DLC title? If this is a disc release, I guarantee they'll fuck it up.

I'd love for a right and proper followup to River City Ransom, one of my favorite games on the NES by far.

Yeah, if they make them retro-style DLC titles like the Mega Man games, that'll be cool. Otherwise, it'll likely be a trainwreck. Other attempts to modernize beat 'em ups that have failed include:
Splatterhouse (2010)
Final Fight: Streetwise
Golden Axe: Beast Rider

Splatterhouse wasn't as bad as it could have been. Wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst. It was a fun play anyways

Splatterhouse was okay. It was glitchy though. Performed a QTE and then landing inna bottomless pit? Lame. Also QTEs kinda suck. Except in Dragon's Lair.

They worked well enough in Shenmue! God Of War kind of over did it though...
