A friend was telling me about this the other day, and sometimes through a movie premise told by word of mouth sounds cool. Then I saw the trailer.
It looks incredibly retarded and aimed at 12 year old boys just getting their first boner. I dunno, man. I dunno.

It's directed by Zach Snyder, who I'm a fan of, but yeah...I don't know about this one.
I really could see it going either way. It could be an entertaining, kick ass action flick....or just an embarrassment to watch. It probably will depend on if you like his style. I do. I liked Watchmen and 300 a lot, and a lot of that had to do with the directing.
Commence slow motion jokes.
EDIT: So I made the above post before I even watched the trailer you posted because I had heard of this movie a while ago.
And yeesh...I think I may have to rent this on the downlow rather than seeing it in the theater.
I don't think his directing has much to do with it. The story itself just looks absolutely retarded. Watchmen was meh, 300 was OK.

Watchmen is my favorite graphic novel, so that movie was awesome to me. If people were unfamiliar with it I can see why it's not considered great.
I see a little contradiction there. You say his directing isn't the problem, but you liked the storyline and idea of this movie before seeing the trailer which definitely has Snyder's style stamped all over it. That's when you weren't so excited about it. Also, you list two of his movies that had great source material (300 and Watchmen are too of the most highly acclaimed graphic novel series) and solid storylines, but you didn't like them. That probably had to do with Snyder's direction and handling of the material, rather than the storyline itself.
Maybe it really is his directing that you don't like. Which is fine, because I do see how his style can seem tedious to a lot of people.
First off, I loved Watchmen when I read it in high school. It was brilliant. It was great seeing it realized as a movie, but it didn't love up to the same excitement while watching it as a movie. So yes, I was familiar with the source material. It's no exaggeration that if 10 people who had read it went and saw the movie, 8 of them were disappointed. I wasn't, I just wasn't as stoked on it as I had hoped to be.
So yeah, maybe I do have a problem with his directing if he took one of my favorite graphic novels and somehow made it slightly more boring.

I didn't think it looked that horrible. I'll probably check it out. Granted I don't really read Graphic Novels at all so I don't have a lot of background to compare it to and with that being said, I loved Watchmen and 300.
It looks flashy enough to draw my attention.

I see more of Afro Samurai mixed with Darkest of Days mixed with Saboteur and throw in some LOTR for the hell of it because of PEW PEW Dragons.

I don't care for Zach Snyder so I'm probably not going to see this.
Without getting into it, 300 was one of the worst movies I ever paid to see. I guess I'm indifferent towards Watchman, maybe it's just me, but seeing the characters play out on screen made them seem different to me, I really hated watching Manhattan. There was also that prison fight scene that was added in there, just to make it "interesting" but to me, it sort of disrupted the flow of the movie. And it's easy to rip on him for the slow motion, but it's not just him...it's a lot of big budget movies nowadays. It would be nice to just see a basic one shot of a fight without any editing or special effects.
And apparently he's doing the next Superman movie? Ugh.

Man, I love people who completely write off movies based on a 30 second trailer.
I think it looks promising, but then again, I love visually stylized movies that don't take themselves too seriously. It's all about entertainment and the trailer makes it look entertaining to me. Plus, I loved 300, so that's a bonus.

My thing, I believe, is that I really don't like "bad-ass" girl movies. I like realistic portrayals of women, and this just seems like one of those "innocent girl who ends up turning into Rambo within an hour and a half" kind of movies and it's almost insulting.

It's as if they couldn't decide what genre to pander to and eventually went "Fuck it! Toss all of them in it! And add titties while at it!"
As good as the action looked in the trailer, I'll just wait for the DVD/Download/Torrent. It looks like one guilty pleasure I'd rather have at home... -_-;

I actually agree with you there Josh as I had the same rection to the trailer. The whole, "Hey you know how girls are totally weak?! Here are some BADASS CHICAS man! Represent!" has definitely been very overdone the last decade and I did get that vibe from this movie. Still, the action looks cool and entertaining so I have an open mind.

Out of curiosity, have you seen Guardians of Ga'Hoole?
Regarding the movie, it sounded cool but the look could go either way.

Fixed.
Am I the only person who doesn't base whether I watch a movie or not depending on the director? Granted I would never watch another Uwe Boll movie.

I didn't check it out. It doesn't really interest me and I probably won't even rent it. I'll wait to hear more opinions from people I know who saw it. I dig fantasy movies, but it looked too kiddie to me. I think I like Snyder because he does a good job with action, and frankly, violence. I'm guessing the violence in that movie is fairly tame...how interesting and brutal can they make animated owl on owl action in a movie aimed at kids?

Obviously I'm not going to base my decision whether to watch a movie completely based on who the director is, but if I like a director it's going to make it more likely that I check out the movie in the theater. When I saw Memento I instantly became a Nolan fan and if he's attached to a movie I'm going to see it; he's never let me down. I also find Peter Jackson movies very entertaining every time.
My favorite Peter Jackson movie is "The Frighteners" for sure, but I can't say I like EVERYTHING he does. Almost every director I know of bombs every once in a while, and I thought "The Lovely Bones" was beyond lame.

True. It's rare for me to like everything a specific director does. I should clarify that I like Peter Jackson's action/adventure movies. I only gave Lovely Bones a chance because he was involved, but it wound up being what I expected--well acted, well produced...but fucking disturbing and depressing. Thankfully I only spent a buck on it from Redbox.
I think Jackson added some great stuff to District 9, which I loved, even though he only produced it. He made that movie better. Again though, that's an action flick.
I hate to be one of those people who hate everything that certain directors have done, but Peter Jackson almost also falls into that category, except for Heavenly Creatures. I guess I have to say I never felt his direction matched the projects he worked on. I was never a huge fan of the LOTR books, so I figured that maybe I was missing something or got something different than other people, then I saw his version of King Kong and...holy shit it was bad. I've seen several of his other movies and none of them were impressive as far as storytelling, so I have to dismiss him. A few other people I never liked are Ang Lee, Michael Cimino and Ron Howard.

I didn't like District 9. I guess I felt the whole apartheid 2.0 message behind it was extremely heavy handed and to me, that really detracted from trying to enjoy the action scenes.
To go with what you guys are saying abour directors, I'll see any Tarantino movie immediately as I've loved most of his stuff, but Inglorious Bastards was a huge disappointment. It was ok, but not at all what I was looking for in a Tarantino movie.

See, I loved District 9. Nothing felt too heavy handed to me and to people not aware of any "message" intention, they got to enjoy a great science fiction film.
Tarantino is hit or miss with me, and I've probably only enjoyed 40% of his movies. He's too predictable, and his fan base annoys the shit out of me.

Fine, I'll go see "Sucker Punch" without all of you.
