You could always rotate your avatar. It's not like it is unchangeable.

Oh, shit. I forgot I changed it to the Atmatar version.
EDIT: Huh. I tried to change it back, but it says the avatar needs to be less than 100 pixels wide by tall, despite it saying to the contrary at the bottom...

Size limit is 100 x 100 pixels. There's also a size (KB) requirement for uploaded avatars.
