I'm sure everyone who cares already knows, but just in case...

Shmup masters Cave released two region free shmups in the past, the bug-themed Mushihime-sama Futari and Espgaluda II Black Label, where winged children fight against an evil technocractic empire. After the release of Espgaluda II, Cave's president said that they were done with region-free shooters. Well, they changed their minds and back in December they announced that their Muchi-Muchi Pork/Pink Sweets combo pack would also be region free. It came out last Tuesday.

Muchi-Muchi Pork looks fucking weird. It has some bizarre pig girl theme.

Pink Sweets features significantly more generic Japanese weirdness.

seeing this makes me wanna buy an xbox 360. they both look bizarre but thats how i like my bullett hell shmups. the whole idea of the genre is pure madness so it fits it anyway.
i own gunbird 1 &2 and castle of shikigami (not sure if this is a cave shmup though) and they are great.

I saw both of those at MAGFest and couldn't believe they were made last decade.

The Castle of Shikigami series is not Cave, it's Alfa System, but those games are good times. I own Shikigami III and want to pick up Shikigami II at some point.

The Gunbird games are by Psyiko, another great company.

Milestone is pretty decent as well.

my mistake. castle of shikigami 2 is fun. i like that whole "bullett-grinding"-thing, thats a nice add to the gameplay. the style is also good and it's not even that hard i used to play it on extreme mode and it was still playable. gunbird 2 is more of a hard game. i never managed to play through it, the bulletts just come so fucking fast.

I really XBLA releases Giga Wing in the future. It's the only type of those shooters I've ever straight-up loved.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Why is it important or of note that these games are region-free?

Because Americans and Europeans want them and they don't want to resort to either buying a second system or mutilating their existing system to play them.

Oh ok, so these are Japanese games that they usually won't release outside of Japan. Thanks for the explanation.

I wish I had an XBOX 360 right about now.
