Whelp, the return to Mirrodin has pretty much destroyed the plane with the Phyrexians invading every color of the plane. Wizards has made it clear that the final block either Mirrodin Pure, which indicates a Mirran victory or New Phyrexia which means that we'll have a multi block story involving everyone's favorite villains, those durn Phyrexians. Who do you think is going to win?

Is it me or does Mirrodin sound like a drug company making the narcotic Phyrexian?

No kidding. I'm actually selling off my MTG cards. I was bored with Scars of Mirrodin, frankly, and I'm getting back into Warhammer/40K instead.

I haven't purchased any new cards since the Zen block. Though, I occasionally play against a guy at work during lunch, and he has a crap ton of the new Mir block. All I can gather from his decks are:
1. "Infect" is stupidly unbalanced.
2. WOTC has a hard-on for artifacts.

Mirrodin is an artifacal world and the set is supposed to have a ton of artifacts.
As for Infect, eh, I think they did an okay job with it.

Dude, try playing infect in an event. It's not broken, it's actually really hard to get it to work because everyone kills everything with infect as soon as they possibly can. I drafted an infect deck once and lost soundly and then built one at the two-headed giant release party the other day and the only reason I did as good as I did with it was because I had a lovely partner backing me up with her support deck. We got our opponents once with a lethal number of poison counters and the game ended with us at 3 life and them still at 30.

God another magic the gathering thread. Do we really need another one of these every time something new comes up?

That actually looks really cool, but explain to me how a culture learns numbers tilted sideways.

That's why it's awesome. And if the bad guys never win, where is the threat? It turns into "Ho-Hum, the Phyrexians are attacking again, yeah just point the Weatherlight at them and fire the super laser..."

Meh, that's a crappy card. Too slow to be good. In limited formats, it's basically game over if you can get it out.
I was really hoping Mirrodin would win so that we'd have an out against Infect. Skyzzzxxxrrrzzzxxxxzzz or what that fucking Infect Dragon is called ruins EDH. But of course Phyrexia wins, because it'll make more money, because MTG players have an irrational hard-on for Phyrexia. God forbid WotC actually do something ballsy instead of taking the easy way out.

Something ballsy like...oh, I don't know...letting the villains of the story win?

It's a temporary victory. The bad guys won in the Rath Cycle for awhile, too.

The bad guys never won in the Rath cycle, what are you smoking?
And I happen to like Phyrexia, dick.
Also, also, much as I love Hellraiser, the word cenobite existed before that.

They were -winning-. They didn't -win-. In most stories of the "Good vs Evil" type, the evil is winning for most of the way. It is VERY rare to see a story where the villains come out on top in the end.

Yeah, and Mirrans "won" Mirrodin dude, remember that whole thing about Glissa and Bosh and Slobad trying to defeat Memnarch? I mean granted, that didn't work too well for Glissa in the end, but how was she to know Phyrexia had corrupted Mirrodin's core?
