| Rapid recent solar and wind price falls are likely to bring new markets and mass adoption a step closer over the next decade and raise the prospects of mergers. |

I think that most people assumed that Solar and Wind energy would begin to play a larger part in our world's craving for energy, it is just nice to see that there is some actual progress in the right direction.

No joke. I just wish they'd implement it a little faster. This state is perfect for harvesting solar power. Flat desert that's sunny all the damn time.

Since our school is all about leaving a smaller Carbon footprint, we've been buying wind power for the past three years. Surprisingly it's held together pretty good and we've only really lost power twice in those three years.
It kills me that so many people want an alternative energy source, but their main focus against it is in fact how they think of any of the collection methods as an "eyesore"

At this time there is too little reliable information about alternative energy. I do wish that there was more credible information published for mass consumption that could explain the details about living with different options.

I can deal with wind turbines and solar panels, but balloons in the sky would piss me off. Unless they had a "farm" of them that was out of the way, I wouldn't want one of these things over my neighborhood. They are horrible to look at. Also, how about the 4.5 feet of snow we got last month?
I love the idea, I applaud the effort, but this is one that I really think needs to be done in specific zones and climates.

i agree. as aeonic mentioned, the AZ desert is perfect for that. miles upon miles of free space. as long as it doesnt encroach on reservation lands, im ok w/this.
heres another article that talks about reducing global warming thru boats making clouds

Regarding the balloons, some jerk with a gun would try and shoot them down. Idiots do it to transformers every now and then. Our local Fish and Game Department even has ads about how it's not cool to do it.

We would need secondary sentry balloons that protect the energy balloons. They would be armed with large magnifying glasses and would rotate to aim the sun's rays at any attackers to melt them.
