I use Xvid mpeg-4 and never had any trouble with it.
And I'm in too.

what settings are optimal for this?
EDIT - This isn't too bad, right?
There's some very slight fuzziness around Megaman and on the stage select screen, and some of your letters look really weird. But otherwise, it looks fine.
Usually, I run my videos through Windows Movie Maker, using the "video for broadabnd (1.0 mbps) option. I have some issues with disappearing while blinking, but otherwise it turns out well.
well, I already finished the game, so unless it makes a difference when I run it through movie maker to add commentary, this is probably what it will be looking like.

Dammit Inafune! Why 2?
I'd join in except:
A) I have no way to record it
2) I don't want to download anything to this borrowed laptop
Q) I've never beaten Megaman 2

The problem has been fixed by going into Windows Movie Maker's video filters compatibility and restoring them to default. This unchecked the "ffdshow Video Decoder" option and things seem to be normal. I should have tried this before freaking out.
I believe I messed around with this setting when I was trying out various compression styles before I got the CamStudio Lossless Codec, but never returned it to default.
Okay. Lesson learned - stop tinkering with options unless I understand something 100%, which definitely applies to audio/video codecs and compressors!
/shame and embarrassment
Things should be back on for completion by Sunday.

Go ahead and start posting some videos here tomorrow (my first couple will be up that evening). There's no deadline or anything, so feel free to take until Monday or Tuesday or to bump this in 4 months or whatever.
I liked FNJ's idea of a "boilerplate" explaining what the videos were all about in his description, so I would suggest putting this in the description (mostly lifted from him):
Quote:
This video is part of the Sydlexia.com Megaman project. Multiple forumers will be doing videos of Megaman 2 for the NES. Afterwards we will all compare and contrast each others style and technique. For more information see this thread: http://www.sydlexia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=14632
If anyone has any suggestions for improvements on that, I'm all ears.
Was going to drop out of this, but if there's no deadline I'll post something next Friday after I'm done with my hellish week.

Well folks, I'm excited to see everyone's videos, and I promise to check out all the runs that show up here. However, I am about to fall off the face of the Earth for a fair amount of time. School, as always, has grouped up all sorts of fun problems for me to worry about in a very short time period. I have four exams this week, as well as projects to get started on the week after. Whine, whine, whine.
Anyways, two of my three videos are complete with annotations and ready to view. The third video is uploaded but unlisted since the annotations are not set up yet; this video features the Dr. Wily Fortress stages. I'm sorry it's not done yet, but I'm betting we'll all be performing similar strategies throughout these stages.
My overall goals in this run:
- Use the Mega Buster on the first wave of Robot Master battles to give the viewer an understanding of the boss's patterns.
- Acquire Item 1, 2 and 3 relatively early on and show where they can be used to grab items or make stages less of a hassle.
- Suggest weapons to use on minor enemies throughout the levels.
Thanks to anyone who checks these out, and I'd appreciate it if you would also report any grammatical errors or typos that may be in the annotations; I'll be doing the same for you.
