Full article here:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704881304576093691253234896.html

Starting this selling season, only the following flavors will be sold
* Thin Mints
* Trefoils
* Do-Si-Dos
* Samos/Caramel deLites
* Lemon Chalet Cremes
* Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties

Samoas are okay but there'd be a riot if they stopped Thin Mints (and I'd join 'em). The article also said that boxes may sell for as much as $4 in some areas.

I liked those caramel ones with the chocolate on the bottom, but they are too expensive for something I could only eat one or two of a week before I got sick of eating sweet stuff. I don't even know what the name of those ones are.

Wow, I didn't know they had that many flavors. I've never seen anyone buy anything but Thin Mints or Samoas. I bet they still sell a similar amount of total boxes. Most of the people I know don't even like girl scout cookies but they feel guilty saying "NO" when a little girl knocks on their door and buy whatever they're selling.

Samoas. And they were four dollars last year here. I don't care. I'm buying some next week. Probably four or five boxes.

You know, the grocery manager at my store told me that Keebler makes Girl Scout cookies anyways so you're better off buying those for cheaper. I don't know about the other kinds, but they definitely have samoans branded as something else but are entirely the same.

Fudge Stripe somethings, I know exactly what you're talking about. Still, it's pretty much the closest thing I come to a charitable donation every year except for Easter Seals or the Salvation Army bell-ringers, so it makes me feel good AND gives me cookies. If I just bought regular cookies at the store, I'd just feel like a pudgy prick with self-esteem issues.

After doing a little research, it seems Keebler is owned by the Kellogg company.

They're the cookies with the lemon creme filling. They're pretty good. A lot better than Thank You Berry Munch.

Um, anyone notice that this isn't a nationwide thing? Each chapter of Girl Scouts chooses which cookies it sells every year, and it looks like some of them are only choosing six of them. Your local cookie sellers may have different varieties and policies.

And why is this a bad thing? The cookie selling is supposed to be teaching these girls a lesson in business, and an important yet painful business lesson is knowing when to cut your losses. If one of your products isn't selling, you need to consider cutting it, even though there may be a small vocal following of the product.

Hey, as long as I can get my Thin Mints, I'm okay with whatever.

Thin Mints that have been kept in the freezer for a few hours are one of life's true joys.

It may not be nationwide, but it seems that in large part, the 'core six' of the cookie brands for this year are the ones that're being sold. I already checked my local troop's site and that's what they're going with. I agree with it being a solid way to teach business, but the reason they're doing it is to boost profits, not to avoid incurring losses. My mother-in-law has been a Scout leader for years and she said they virtually always make beaucoup bucks off of the sales.

And they'll never get rid of Thin Mints. There'd be blood in the streets.

Boosting profits is good.

Never said it wasn't. Everyone, even Khalil Gibran, likes a prophet boost.

They are highly addictive. I also like the mint ones, the peanut butter ones, and teh butter ones.
