I know there is a thread of these from awhile back but I can't find in a couple pages, so a new thread... I've gotten a couple in the past few days, one of which on my school account, which is odd because aside from school I only have it connected to GoG.com and Steam...

Hello,
I am Mr. Bashir Sahrizan, a citizen of Malaysia. Some years back,i invested some amount of money in the US and it has yeilded some good interest which is due
payment.
For some time now,i have not be able to make any long distance travel because of my health, so i wanted my investment liquidated and transferred to my account
by Swift, but the Investors insist, they can not transfer the funds to any bank account outside United State due to their new company policy trigered by the prevailing
economic meltdown.
Meanwhile, i wanted to travel to the US to get the funds myself but my doctor advice against it ,that due to my present state of health i can not make such a
long distance trip.
So i was told to provide someone in the United State to receive the funds on my behalf.
Please let me know if you can handle the funds on my behalf and forward to me.
You shall be entitle to 10% of the money you receive and forward me the balance
90% WITHOUT YOU SPENDING A SINGLE CENT FROM YOUR END.
Let me know if you can handle this so that i forward you the contact information of the investor and make arrangement on how to receive the funds.
I Await Your Reply Via This E-Mail: {mr.bashir_s@yahoo.com.hk}
Thank You.
Mr. Bashir Sahrizan. |
and this one from Hotmail

I kinda like how the second one doesn't even really try any sort of duplicity. It's just "I have money, want to invest in something?"
As for the first one, I mean, aside from the "duh" factor that it's a scam, the idea that any company wouldn't send money to an overseas bank account is silly. And if the company won't, certainly their bank will.

If your going to try one of these scams, wouldn't you go hunt down a translator to help right up your scam email? I would.

I just have to wonder if any people have actually fallen for this. It just seems like with a little common sense everyone would just think that it's too good to be true.

I'm sure some old people would fall for this, but most old people I know can't work the internet, so...
I do know some people that fall for every get rich quick scam out there, but these E-mails are kind of silly and obvious.

But you never know which of these emails will turn out to be true, that's why I try them all. The way I see it, all the money I've lost over the years from these email scams will come back times a hundred once I come across the real email. It's just a matter of time.

If nobody fell for it, nobody would try it.
Sadly, some people do fall for it. Though now that the knowledge of them is so prevalent, far fewer people do now.
The whole idea is for greed to blind your common sense. It makes it like you have nothing to lose and something to gain, so why not?

Also, somewhere out there, there's a Nigerian prince with millions of dollars who needs a friendly American's help, and he's wondering just why the hell his desperate e-mails get ignored. Doesn't anyone out there want free money?

I almost want to send the Nigerian rip-offs a gift or money just to congratulate them on speaking and typing English so well. My sister's e-mails read like she typed them with mittens on.

So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind. |

I'm sure if you want, just copy what I quoted up there... it's the exact same thing and I'm sure they wouldn't care if they got a suck- I mean a well deserving young man such as yourself to do it :3

People have always fallen for this kind of stuff. The internet is a new way for people to do it relatively anonymously and be able to reach a lot of people.
