I'm not the biggest fan of Jack Black, but at least 40-50% of his movies make me laugh so I may be willing to give this a rental chance next year or something. There is NO WAY it can be better than the made for TV Gulliver's Travels featuring Ted Danson though.

My grandparents have a really, really old animated version I thought was pretty cool.
Ditto on it not being better than the Ted Danson/Mary Steenburgen one. That one was fantastic. I probably won't pay to see this film, to be honest. I'm a little Jack Black'ed out.
Who likes role-playing games? Me. Way too goddamn much.

Not interested at all. I try not to be a movie or book snob, but I appreciated Gulliver's Travels as the piece of witty satire it is in literature form and I doubt that Jack Black can appeal to that at all. Sorry, I'd rather watch an original piece that was meant to be slapstick and fart jokes instead. Also, yes, I do remember all the rather low brow toilet humor of the book, but it wan't entirely based on it.

Yeah, it looks like just another shallow, low calorie comedy shovelware. Particularly since I just finished reading Gulliver's Travels, it's stupid that the film only covers the very tired and worn out Lilliput storyline (only about 1/5 of the book).

How do you know that the movie isn't going to capture the witty satire of the book? All that's been released is the trailer.
What do you expect? It's a PG movie being released around the holidays. It's target audience is kids and families, and if they can sucker a few of Black's older, childless fans into the theaters then they'll be even happier. But the guys that frequent this forum aren't exactly the demographic they're going for. It's aimed at the kids, who have to drag their parents along. They'll be a handful of 'older' jokes to placate the adults that are being forced to watch it, but it's generally aimed at the young'ins.

I've seen from other trailers that they get into the Brobdingnag area too, which is the first one I saw, which made me think this is just another fart joke comedy.
