"When we DO announce what we're doing, half the world's going to think we're crazy and half the world's going to think it's the coolest thing since sliced bread–how great is that?" -Warren Spector
Below is a collection of concept art for a Disney game coming to the Wii.

I like Steampunk but some of this stuff just looks a little too over the top.

That is either the coolest thing I have ever seen, or an abomination that will brings God's wrath down to destroy us all. (Not that those are mutually exclusive of course.) I can't really form an opinion right now other than...wow. That Mickey mecha-spider...wow.
Wow.

That and the 3 robed critters (reminded me of See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil" or something). Struck me the most. I'd want to take a shotgun to that Country Bearbot.

See, the robed creature didn't really bug me in the slightest. I mean is it creepy yeah, but I've slaughtered thousands of his ilk in RPGs and shooters since I was like 10. But those abominations of Disney characters really hit me hard for some reason. Not in a BAD way you understand, just...shock at the *wrongness.* (Wrongness as in, "extreme overthrow of expectations" not wrong like, evil/bad/etc wrong.) I don't think I realized exactly how much I hold those Disney characters in my mind as kind of a symbol of being a kid, being happy...being *safe.* Seeing them corrupted, and especially like THAT, is disconcerting as hell. That's not "steampunk" that's like...something I couldn't even imagine in a nightmare.
And I think I *like* that. If they can use these characters to tell a good story and actually make a statement, and not just for shock value, holy fucking SHIT. This could be incredible. Very interested to see where this goes. SERIOUS kudos to the person who came up with that...that's creativity on a scale that's completely beyond my personal comprehension.

You still can't make Mickey look cool. But I like that Orwellian concept nevertheless. Only the concept, though.

Must have. Anything that breathes new life into those stale ass Disney characters that I never gave a shit about in the first place cannot be a bad thing.

Exactly, I dunno how people could hate this. Disney doing something edgy like this is probably the most different thing they've done since Fantasia, and Fantasia is insane.

Wow, regardless of whether it's good or not, I may have to buy it just to go to an apocalyptic Disney World.

That looks... surprisingly awsome. Still though, I'm surprised that Disney itself would make something like this. Like Hawk above me said, the characters seem corrupted in some way, and I did not think that they (The disney corporation) would do that to it's characters. I would think that the images looked like fan art if not for the quality. But that being said, this looks really cool.

This is all just concept art. I'm interested to see what they actually use and put into the game. I liked the sketches of the town area. Thos look very "Steampunk." I think the Monstro Disney World as cool as it looks seems a bit over the top, even for Steampunk.

Hmm it looks interesting. That's what i like about it though. Disney is always portrayed as "Happy Happy Joy Joy" and everything loving and kind etc. This looks evil as hell, like the robots are mad and i think that's a good twist on Disney.
I hope it comes out soon and i will then purchase it.

'Epic Mickey' is a Wii Exclusive
Earlier this year, new rumors and concept art popped up online for "Epic Mickey," the new (and judging by that concept art, blisteringly insane) Disney game being developed by Warren Spector and Junction Point Studios. Now, at least one of those rumors can be confirmed: Game Informer reports that Epic Mickey will be "coming exclusively" to the Wii.
There have been a few indications that this would likely be a Wii game, particularly after it was briefly listed on Junction Point artist Tony Pulham's resume as "Epic Mickey (Wii Video Game)". But now we know that, indeed, the Wii is the only console where you'll see Mickey's unusually -- but highly intriguing -- dark turn in gaming next year.
Little else is known about Epic Mickey, including any kind of specific release date (we're even guessing it'll be a 2010 release at this point). But now that it looks like the media push behind the game is beginning in earnest, hopefully a lot more details will be following soon. |
