http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Benavidez#Medal_of_Honor_citation
Read this. This is who we celebrate. We celebrate the men and women who do shit we cannot dream can happen in real life. While we complain about morning traffic, they are dodging enemy fire. While we wish it was time to leave our 8 hour shift at work, they are on missions lasting for days. While we came home and relax after our "hard day's work", they are already preparing for the next day of hell.
These people give all of themselves to something greater. We may not always agree with the politics of why there are there, but we must always remember that THEY are there. Doing what is asked of them, by their countries. To all the Moms, Dads, Brothers, Sisters, Sons, & Daughters who serve our country, you have my thanks and my respect.

I appreciate all that they've done (try to, anyway). Without them, I'm sure we'd be part of a different country by now. These guys are AWESOME.

Thanks all you vets of Sydlexia. America is jaded and bratty sometimes, but I think deep down even Janeane Girafillo appreciates what you do: on that note: my grand pap in ww2:
Now everyone knows how I became so handsome.

You don't mess with a man holding a M1A1 Thompson.

Awesome photo Burt, and great post Knyte. I don't think there's anything more humbling in the world than reading about a recipient of the MoH. As long as we're on that topic, it may be a day late, but allow me to share my personal hero:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audie_Murphy
Audie Murphy. My choice for greatest American soldier who ever lived. Not only did he win every single medal the country (and several other countries) had to give, some multiple times, he did it while being a short, slight guy who was rejected from the Marines, Paratroopers and (almost) the Infantry.
I guess we know who had the last laugh on that one. Hooah, Audie and Roy!

My dad is a huge Audie Murphy fan. I'd like to give thanks for my dad today. He turned 61 this year and is a Vietnam vet and one of the kindest men I will ever know. He spent '68 through '70 in Vietnam and contracted Malaria. Being an avid gun collector and hunter before he went to Vietnam, his experiences there haunt him to this day and he hasn't shot a gun in 40 years.
