Eric Stoltz as the original Marty McFly
Quote: |
Everyone knows the classic 1985 film "Back to the Future" featured a boyish Michael J. Fox in a winning performance as Marty McFly.
But Fox was not the original McFly. In fact, Eric Stoltz was five weeks into shooting the famed McFly role when director and co-writer Robert Zemeckis made a drastic production decision -- changing his lead actor.
Details of the shocking Hollywood switch and never-before-seen footage of Stoltz as McFly are part of the extras package for the "Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy" to be released on Blu-Ray on Oct. 26. |
I can only say it's interest to say the least.

It was one of the best decisions in movie history.

It's nothing new. But it would have been... interesting.

Not only is that not right, that's not even wrong. It's a meaningless statement. Saying something is "one molecule away" from plastic is like saying a farm is one letter away from a fart. Water is "one molecule away" from being explosive hydrogen gas. |

The only reason it's new again is because a large chunk of the Stoltz footage will be included as a bonus on the 25th anniversary DVDs.
Also: Tom Selleck was the first choice to play Indiana Jones. His test reel is a bonus in the DVD box set.

Test reels are boring in my opinion.

I wonder how things would have been different if Stoltz kept the role.

No one would care as much about Fox's disease?

I don't know, but I bet he balls his fucking fists up in a rage every time he thinks about how much money he lost out on.

Yeah, they had the footage of him shot in the film included in the DVD set. He seemed awfully bland and listless, kind of like Genevieve Bujold as Kathryn Janeway.

Well, I'd think that they'd need Eric Stoltz's permission to use footage of him, so, presumably speaking, I think the money he could conceivably make off that would shut him up.

Yeah, I've seen the footage and with Stoltz, Back to the Future looked like it would have been just another kitschy 80s teen movie. He didn't bring the comedy and hero quality to the role that Michael J Fox did and was just somehow "off" which is why he was replaced.

Look at it this way: He's in Teen Wolf Too. And there's no penis!

I don't get the penis statement. Help me look at it another way so I understand your point.

When the crowd gets up after the winning slam dunk or whatever, one of the extras in the bleachers had his penis hanging out of his fly.

Oh, so Dorn feels Teen Wolf Too was inferior because there's no dick in it. Got it.
