Before I begin, a brief story from my youth. Image

I was raised Jewish as a kid. As such I had to go to hebrew school. It sucked balls. One day which did NOT suck was when, out of nowhere out class watched a random action movie. It was a pretty kick ass movie too. It was about a group of Jews being kidnapped by terrorists to a foreign country and were basically allowed to stay there until they covert to whatever it is the terrorists all believe in or they are executed. I distinctly remember the second act of the movie being about training a special forces unit of some kind. They actually specifically show the training of the mission as an exercise, and then the third act is the special forces comes in, kills terrorists, rescues hostages.

So the problem is I can't remember the name of the movie at all. I used to think it was "Rise of the Robotron" but there's no such film with that name. Then I thought is was "Rise of the _______" (I distinctly remember those words in the title) but then wikipedia has been doing nothing but coming up short with film titles I recognize.

So yea, I'm up poop creek without a paddle. Little help, please?

It was likely based on the events of Operation Thunderbolt. A few movies were made on this subject:

Victory At Entebbe, a 1976 TV movie starring Anthony Hopkins, Burt Lancaster, Elizabeth Taylor, Kirk Douglas, and Richard Dreyfuss.

Raid On Entebbe, a better TV from 1977 starring Peter Finch, Horst Buchholz, Charles Bronson, Yaphet Kotto, and James Woods.

Operation Thunderbolt (Mivtsa Yonatan), an Israeli-produced Academy Award-nominated feature film starring Israeli actors you've never heard of. The movie was originally released in 1977, but was not released in America until January 1978.

Unless the scripts for the movies were all the same, I'm 99% sure it's Raid On Entebbe.

Wow, I can't believe that rather friendly terrorist leader was Yaphet Kotto. Not only that, but Charles fucking Bronson was in this? Image

Thanks, Syd.
