You think PFC Bradley Manning The suspect of the huge WikiLeaks document spillage is a Patriot or a Traitor?
Personally, I think he broke the Oath he took when he decided to join the Military and defend the US from all Enemies Foreign and Domestic. You have a Classified Clearance. Don't abuse it.

I think he's a jerk. We just had our most deadly month in Afghanistan, this situation has to be dealt with.

can he be both? he shouldn't have done what he did, but at the same time, there's so little transparency with the conflict over there and it's such a quagmire that i want to know what's going on, not something you really get from the news. i'll keep my personal opinions about the conflict to myself, but it's a messy situation no matter how you slice it.

Yeah, it sucks that we have to be there. The fact of the matter is that normal everyday people don't have to know fucking combat details and routes that platoons are taking, that's fucking stupid. I don't mind being in the dark about shit like that when it does involve killing actual bad guys.

it's not the combat routes that concern me, because they've likely already changed them. it's documents pointing to material support by an ostensible ally nation to the enemy we're supposed to be fighting there, or placement of contractor (ie mercenary) units as guards for opium interests or the innumerable other pursuits taking place there that really concern me as a citizen. we're already trying to fight fleas with an elephant gun, no need to make our job harder and more expensive.

But he also showed current techniques being used right now. So these groups can adapt and find new ways to fight. How many Mothers are going to receive a folded Flag now because this Kid leaked classified information?
I have a clearance, I see this information every day at work. You don't need to be spilling it.
This isn't who killed JFK or some conspiracy theory we're solving. Its War reports, Situation Reports, and how people reacted. It might have shown a bigger picture of the "dirty work" the Civilian Casualties. But welcome to War. No one is being instructed to go out and kill the Neutral.
He's a Traitor and I hope they fry his ass.

Yeah how exactly does him leaking classified stuff about troop movements and whatnot to the public protect said public from so called domestic enemies? Unless he found proof of Fema Concentration Camps or Overlord Reptilian Alien owned human cattle pens under the Denver International Airport I don't see how he supposedly did that.

My opinion is that the Afghan and Iraq wars cannot be won. By continuing the fight, we're only throwing away more lives and billions of dollars. At this point, only pride and arrogance are keeping us there. The real heroes in this war will be the people who end it.
So if leaking these documents causes public opinion of the war to fall... which causes the administration to start lowering troop levels... which causes the war to end sooner than it otherwise would have... then I'll argue that Pfc. Bradley Manning saved hundreds or thousands of US Soldiers.

There really wasn't anything juicy that was leaked, its not like when we found out Nixon had troops in Cambodia, the only purpose this serves is to undermine the war effort in Afghanistan and put U.S. soldiers and cooperating Afghan citizens in danger. Manning should stand before a firing squad.

The nature of the informatin leaked seems idiotic, that is what i don't understand. I understand raising public awareness, and showing the truth about what's giong on, but some information doesn't need to be known, and shouldn't be known. Accurate death counts and progress are nice to know, deceit of us citizens by our government is nice to have revealed. But battle tactic or patrol routes WTF?

Exactly. And I'm about to head to Iraq for a year. I understand thats not Afhgan, but still. If I was about to be deploying over there, It would make me a hell of a lot more nervous knowing half the stuff I would be doing is out on "Wikileaks".
So the questions is...
Blindfold? Cigarette?

yeah you can. patriot is missing the second 'r' so it would only work if you said you can't spell it without traito, and who knows what that means. you can't spell it without riot though.

I think he should have to write a letter to every single family of the soldiers that died because of his foolishness, explaining why what he did was a good idea.

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

You don't abuse clearance EVER when you have that kind of access, no matter what your job. But to be a solider and do that is inexcusable. Whatever his personal motivations were does not change the fact that what he did betrayed all the trust that was placed in him. Traitor.
