Looks awesome and makes me kinda wish I had a Wii. (As it will be a wii-ware release)

At first it just looks like an 8-bit Grand Theft Auto, but then you see hints of everything from Zelda, Contra, Bionic Commando, Metal Gear, TMNT, and River City Ransom.

So this is what happened to that Grand Theftendo project from years ago? Awesome! A hell of a lot better than a demake of GTA3, easily a first day purchase.

It looks really fun, to be honest. I lost count of how many games I saw in it, but I'm actually tempted to buy a Wii anyhow, and this doesn't hurt it's prospects.

When did obvious references to 8-bit classics become mandatory for anything made in 8-bit style?

Knyte, the military themed stuff looks more like Jackal than Metal Gear to me.

This looks awesome.

When people who grew up playing 8-bit games started making games of their own as far as I can tell. There's nothing wrong with a little wink to the classics here and there as long as the game that contains these references can stand on it's own merits and not rely on them as a nostalgic crutch to boost sales.

They're obviosuly trying to get this on all three consoles. Notice that the tagline is "coming to your game console", not "coming to your Wii".

Frankly, I'm sick of this bullshit. They get Wii owners all excited with the promise of exclusives, then they're not exclusive.

As a last gen Gamecube owner, I've come to expect it. That and lazy ports.

I thought everything with Wii or Mario in it's name was an exclusive, save for the stuff on the DS. Nintendo has a dickload of games you don't get on other consoles, and a lot of the ones that it doesn't get are because primarily, they're gunning for families.

Look at the 00:36 mark. Tons of crate and moving towards a parked truck. Also, did you notice at 00:33 the store named "Sneaky Snake Box & Crate"?

Yea, but I did see a lot of Jackal style action. That chopper scene at the :39 mark looked right out of the game.

I saw a fake Atari logo on a sign that said Nolan's Arcade at one point. Obviously a reference to Nolan Bushnell.

I'm just sick of seeing 8-bit in particular everywhere. The references to 8-bit culture don't really mean anything since everyone doing this kind of thing is expected to do it now, so I don't see why it's noteworthy when they do.

So are we eventually going to go through a 16 bit retro phase, 32, 64 and eventually come full circle?

When it becomes marketable and easy to produce, yeah, it'll happen. Probably not on the scale of the 8-bit stuff we've been seeing but it could happen. The thing about 8-bit graphics is that they're easy to make, anyone can throw together some pixels to create a sprite.

So, combine a generation taking what they grew up with and applying it to the entertainment/clothing/advertising industry with an easily produced medium, in this case pixel art, and you have the over-saturation we're dealing with today. It's not all bad though, that 8-bit version of State Farm's ad jingle is pretty catchy.

I was wondering why we haven't hit 16-bit already. Maybe in another decade or so when my generation turns 30?

Get real folks. 8-bit isn't "over saturating" in any way, shape or form. If it seems that way, it's because you spend way too much time on a certain forum that has a fondness for nostalgia and need to get out more.

Eh, some people are never satisfied.

Retro Gamer: "god I miss the old games"
Videogame Company: "here are some old style games"
Retro Gamer: "god, too many old style games. Where are the new ones?!"

This, god damn folks.

I love games like this, they were appealing to me as a child, and they are still appealing now.

It's better than the fucking Call of Duties and Madden's they mindlessly churn out annually. Now that shit is over-saturating the market.

I can't believe people are actually gonna bitch about getting a fun retro title in 2010.

Username is also right on the money.
