Have you ever been so drunk that you passed out and your dog ate your toe? I haven't either, but luckily for Michigander Jerry Douthett, he has. It turns out Jerry has type 2 diabetes and a wound on his toe had becoming dangerously infected. After a night of drinking Jerry passed out in his chair and the family dog Kiko decided to do a little doggy doctoring. From the article: "'The toe was gone,' said Douthett. 'He ate it. I mean, he must have eaten it, because we couldn't find it anywhere else in the house. I look down, there's blood all over, and my toe is gone.' [Douthett's wife] Rosee, 40, rushed her husband to the hospital where she's a gerontology nurse — Spectrum Health's Blodgett Campus. Kiko had gnawed to a point below the nail-line. When tests revealed an infection to the bone, doctors amputated what was left of the toe."

That's one kick ass dog. Do you think the dog knew what was going on and consciously decided to eat the toe to help?

That is such an odd story. This is the sort of thing that is almost a miracle.

That is ridiculous.. .let's just hope he doesn't do it to a good toe. Might be right about that "sensing" business.

This is somewhat unrelated, but on the topic of the differences between I Can, I Will.. and I May

I really dislike, for example when a person asks a teacher can i go to the bathroom. The implied question is legally can i, given school rules of needing your permission, go to the bathroom. It's not a question of physical possibility. Basically it's not a physically can i go to bathroom, the answer to that is yes.. it's a legally can i (or within school rules) go to the bathroom. There's a subtle difference of context within the word "can". I'm kinda annoyed by the inability of teachers to understand this context of the word "can".

The implies context is rightfully.
