So yesterday I was really sick and spent most of the day in bed. I got up a few times to use the computer and I accidentally left the monitor on.
I woke up this morning to find the word YAHOO burned into the top left corner of the screen. I thought this was only a problem with CRTs... Is there any way to fix this, or am I fucked?

Turn it off for a bit and unplug it. See what happens.
If it continues to be a little bitch, send me a PM/IM.

Do I have to unplug it, or will turning off the powerstrip be sufficient?

If you turn off the power strip and it is REALLY off, then yes that is fine.

Yeah, I used to get burn-ins on my older LCD monitor. Usually if it was an overnight deal like you described, keeping it turned off for a while would clear it up.

I wonder if Yahoo could use this type of technology to their advantage. If they made their logo just a little brighter, they might be able to burn in to more machines and subliminally entice users to keep on browsing their network.

Wow, I didn't think this happened to contemporary computer monitors. I did this to my parents old school projection big screen as a kid and they were less than impressed.

I never experenced it on anything I own, but I always remember seeing the "Crusing USA" Arcade machines having their Logo Burnt into the top of the screen.

How long should I leave it unplugged? It's been like 2 hours.

It worked! Mostly. The Yahoo logo is completely gone, but the line that was under it is still sorta there. I'll probably unplug it again overnight.

				Monitor is 15".
Optimal resolution is 1280x1024, I run it at 1024x768.

				Syd,
Why not turn the monitor off after 20 minutes of inactivity through the power settings?

				http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php
Scroll to the bottom of the page.

Click on "Launch JScreenFix"

Switch your browser to full screen mode (usually F11). Leave it on that epilectic inducing screen for 45 - 60 minutes. Should help get rid of the last traces of "LCD Burn In".

Hacker, do you have a college near you?
Of course you do, there are thousands of those things around the US.

Find out what they do with the monitors that they get rid of when they replace their public computing labs.

That is how you fix a CRT. By getting a free replacement.
