Does anyone know when either Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 are coming out?

These are the 2 games I'm most looking forward to this year. I heard they were trying to get them both out in December '08, but that is clearly not the case. The only release dates I've been able to find are TBA's.

Whoever told you this, or wherever you read this, thank them for me, I needed a good laugh. Currently, there really isn't any known info on the release dates for either game. ...Or, as I should say, any of the games, since StarCraft II will actually be released as three games, one per year, for each of the three races. Probably the first hint at a release date for these games will come during Blizzcon in August. If either game comes out in 2009, I'll be amazed.

Oh god, three separate games? Fuck. That's gonna take forever. Sad

I just hope the release the Terrans first. Always been my favorite.

Fer Fack, Another year....that is piss. Yeah, I heard about the separate releases for SC 2, that sounds a little suspect, I hope they don't charge $60 per release.

Maybe I misread '09 and read '08. Either way, as you said it looks like a while before we see anything blizzard related.

I'm pretty sure it's Terrans first... but then again, it might be Zerg. I know for a fact that Protoss is gonna be the last one released, though.

That's fucking lame. Way to pull an EA on us Blizzard. I love Starcraft but for close to $180 for the complete Starcraft 2...fuck that.

So is Diablo 3 going to get individual releases for each class? I sure hope not but anything is possible after this bullshit with Starcraft 2.

If protoss are the resolution of the conflict, then it would stand to reason that the escalating threat would require the zerg to be number two, for purposes of maintaining drama.

Diablo 3 will be great. Everything else will suck.

I think we only need one game to be able to play online, which is fine by me since that's most of the reason why I played Starcraft. For the awesome "Use Map Settings" maps, so I'll be getting the Zerg one for the ability to show off which side I use.

Also, it's amazing how I didn't develop carpal tunnel from my Diablo II + Starcraft days.

I say they need to either change their plan and either put out one game or offer each individual game at a much lower price. I am not going to pay $180 for the complete experience. I'd be happy if they offered each disc at maybe $30 and make the total $90. That is a much more reasonable price. I'd pay that becasue it is Starcraft but let's hope this "Trilogy/Individual Release" formula does not catch on with other games.

World of Warcraft: Human Edition, Orc Edition, Dwarf Edition...

NBA Live 2010: Lakers Edition, Spurs Edition, Nuggets Edition

Super Mario Bros: Mario Edition, Luigi Edition, Yoshi Edition.

This had better not become a trend.

Isn't the draw of StarCraft the multiplayer. How the fuck is that going to work when only one race is available?

It will be lame. Everybody will be using the same race and also be using the same strategy until the "expansions" come out.

all 3 races will be available for multiplayer from the get go. only thing is, the whole single player campaign wont be completed until all 3 games are out. and they 'promised' no cliffhanger bullshit endings, but they will make sure each campaign feels like a full fledged game and not just something to milk the franchise or just nickel and dime you.

Quote:
As eager StarCraft fans itch to know more about when they can expect their first taste of the game, Blizzard claims the title is finally nearly ready for an official release date. VG247 reports on a FAQ that addressed concerns about the game's lack of a solid release date. "When we know a date (for anything) for certain, we'll let you know," said lead designer Dustin Browder. "Hang in there. We're in the final stretch."

Browder also pointed out that the beta is going to happen this year, but hasn't been released yet because the solo campaign is "under heavy construction." Asked about giving a target date, his answer is very blunt: "Let's be realistic. Our target dates are not something we hit more than half the time. Putting those out there would be pretty close to lying to the fans. We are not going to do that." While that isn't the best news for salivating StarCraft fanatics, at least it's honest.

All races are available in multiplayer actually, which is why I'm not too flustered about the separate game thing, since I rarely played the Campaign.

I was just looking around on the Futureshop website and they had a release date for SC2 on October 31 this year. But then, below it says "release date has not yet been finalized", but you would think they got this date from somewhere right? I hope they weren't being a bunch dicks and they decided to throw in a random date just to torture me.

i think they just threw a date together, cause i havent heard anything about that. if anything, i figured it would be a holiday release.

one thing that might or might not upset you, NO LAN PLAY IN SC2. granted, nowadays its not totally necessary because everyone has broadband, but that was huge back then.
Quote:
If you've ever been to a LAN Party, there's a reasonable chance you were playing StarCraft, especially in the late '90s. That may not be the case for StarCraft II though, as Blizzard has just confirmed that the upcoming title will not be supporting LAN play.
"We don't currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games," Blizzard representative Bob Colayco told us.

"While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy."

I always thought Lan-play with Starcraft was odd, I often associated that kind of stuff to Counterstrike or Unreal Tournament.

Game stores do that all the time and yes, the date is at best an educated guess. Thus, the disclaimer about it not being finalized. They want you to get excited and pre-order.

Blizzard never gives out release dates because, historically, they are meticulous perfectionists that only release a game when it is 100% finished and the best it can be. So rather than set a date, then face the embarrasment of delaying that date multiple times, they just never set one until the game goes gold.

I sometimes wonder if Nintendo would've been helped out during the N64's era if they'd kept that policy with Zelda and other games.

Diablo 3 looks really fun. I don't normally make purchases for the PC, but I'd be willing to make an exception in this case.
