New Titanic expedition will create 3D map of wreck
By STEVE SZKOTAK (AP) – 1 hour ago
RICHMOND, Va. — A team of scientists will launch an expedition to the Titanic next month to assess the deteriorating condition of the world's most famous shipwreck and create a detailed three-dimensional map that will "virtually raise the Titanic" for the public.
The expedition to the site 2 1/2 miles beneath the North Atlantic is billed as the most advanced scientific mission to the Titanic wreck since its discovery 25 years ago.
The 20-day expedition is to leave St. John's, Newfoundland, on Aug. 18 under a partnership between RMS Titanic Inc., which has exclusive salvage rights to the wreck, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in Massachusetts. The expedition will not collect artifacts but will probe a 2-by-3-mile debris field where hundreds of thousands of artifacts remain scattered. |

I personally can't wait to see what secrets this old wreck has to offer.

This actually seems like it could be pretty cool. I'm interested to see where they go with this.

This is all so James Cameron can re-release "Titanic" in 3-D.

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

With the amount he put into Avatar he could afford to:
A) Resurrect the actual titanic
B) Rebuild it exactly

and resink it.
Then repeat.

I'm pretty sure that they are building a replica titanic in Belfast in the Titanic quarter.
If this is definitely true i will go and see it and take pictures for you guys! Better than a 3D map.

Looking at the trailer I'm not sure if it'll be worth seeing
It looks just like a modernized remake.
We know what's going to happen, so I'm not sure what they can do to make it better.
The trailer shows the ship sinking, so we know there's no real change in the ending.
:/

Clearly I don't
I've never even heard of them
EDIT: After looking at some of their films I have indeed heard of some of their work.

Of course, the 'first' Titanic dominated the box-office for the better part of early 1998, thanks to the millions of poor saps were repeatedly dragged to theaters by overzealous girlfriends, and the film has an iconic place in cinema history because of that success. However, fans who still walk around with a replica of the Heart of the Ocean and have perfected 'My Heart Will Go On' to a karaoke art form need not worry about the canon being polluted. -- It's not a direct sequel, but rather, portrays a modern ship named after the ill-fated luxury-liner, which runs into a disaster of its own. (Besides CGI effects that could be bested by a first year student.) The culprit seems to be either Al-Qaeda or Mutant Mummies from Mars.
But then again, who knows? Maybe the film's star Bruce Davison, (a respectable actor, btw) will time-travel back to the original Titanic and use some futuristic space gizmo to take control of Giant Octopus to have him knock that nasty iceberg out of the way. However, they would eventually find out that the iceberg was actually an undercover alien that was sent to Earth disguised as an iceberg in a Terminator-like quest to kill Leonardo DiCaprio's character, who was destined to stop an invasion in the future.
