Wow, this story is pretty remarkable. The odds of this have to be so low.

Telegrah.co.uk wrote:
When two spectators standing on the boundary at a cricket match saw an object hurtling down from the sky, their first instinct might have been to applaud. However Jan Marszel, 51, and Richard Haynes, 52, were not witnessing a six, but an extremely rare meteor strike.

The rock, a few inches long and believed to be up to 4.5 billion years old, broke in two when it hit the ground in front of them close to the pitch. The pair – both Sussex members – were sitting square of the wicket watching the England player Luke Wright bat with Monty Panesar when they spotted the black, five-inch rock hurtling towards them.

Mr Marszel, an IT consultant, said: “We were sitting at the boundary edge when all of a sudden, out of a blue sky, we saw this small dark object hurtling towards us.

“It landed five yards inside the boundary and split into two pieces.

“One piece bounced up and hit me in the chest and the other ended up against the boundary board.

“It came across at quite a speed – if it had hit me full on it could have been very interesting."

The pair have kept the seemingly extraterrestrial pieces of rock for posterity and said they would be happy for experts to examine them.

I don't know what the statistics are of a person getting killed by a small meteorite going through their head like a bullet is per year, but I'm pretty sure if someone did they'd have the worst fucking luck imaginable.

By interesting, do you mean seriously injured?

That'd be pretty cool though to own a piece fo a real asteroid though.

Heh it'd be funny if the guy with the cricket bat hit it as it came towards him and it flew into the stands.

The rock was almost as old as Earth itself. I wonder how long it was traveling through space.

Is that God's way of saying "Stop playing cricket"? Or "Let me in on that sweet sweet sport"? There are great theological theories to be drawn from this.

All this extraterrestrial business interrupting cricket games just reminds me of Hitchhiker's Guide.

If I was in the stands and that shit flew down and hit somebody square in the face, yeah I would have been horrified.

But I also would have probably started a slow clap, to be followed by everyone else in the stands until it evolved into a roaring cheer! Don't pretend like you guys wouldn't have done the same thing.

I came into this thread expecting someone to have said "Cricket? Nobody understands cricket..."

I am disappointed.
