What would happen if you bought one of those 50$ Visa gift cards with cash, then turned around and rented 50 movies from a redbox, and never turned them in?

I did some research for you. They won't take gift cards. But, they will take pre-paid cards. Though, you have to give your personal info such as SSN to get one, so probably not a good idea.

Gift cards are different from rechargeable debit cards. Those redboxes will take the rechargeable card, but not the gift cards.

So if you managed to snag a prepaid without using any traceable info it would work? Who would redbox bring the hammer down on, the store that sold the card without requiring a signature / ID? Not that I'd ever do something this stupid, it just ran across my mind when I was returning some movies today.

Yeah, but stores don't sell them unless u fill out all pertinent info. I think you're confusing gift card and rechargeable card.

sometimes redbox will accept a pre-paid or a gift card the first time, but not after that.
And you can only rent a maximum of 5 movies.

If I could get it to bypass needing a card swipe and access to whatever database that card swipe goes in it would be pretty sweet (but retarded) to have a redbox sitting in my apartment, kind of like a vending machine set to give free sodas.
