I don't know about you guys, but some of my fondest memories were of the handheld systems, mainly Gameboy. Just thought I'd get a thread going on some of the good memories you have of the Gameboy, DS, etc. etc.

My first gameboy was a crappy pocket I got from my cousin in Florida. First game? Pokemon Yellow, which I still own to this day. Vacations, roadtrips, always had that sucker in my pocket ready to play.

Best memory is probably getting all 250 on Pokemon Gold. Proud day, indeed Smile

Metroid II, Tetris, and Pokemon Red were my favorite Gameboy titles.

I used to play my Game Gear a lot back in the day, though.

I have never been a big fan of handheld game consoles.

I will admit though that the title of this thread is amusing.

I never got into handhelds much. I guess I just don't see the point of playing something on such a small unit when you can play of a full-size TV. Unless you're on the go, of course. But if I'm sitting around at home I'd rather play on a console.

Well, I'm kind of reliving my handheld memories (wow this sounds like a how-to to wank one off)
Anyways, I got myself a Dingoo, and am currently playing some of the old GBA classics like some of the castlevanias and pokemon fire red.

AT one point I owned two copies of Pokemon Blue. One of them was owned by Jesus.
He sucks at pokemon. He never made it past the 2nd gym.

I was also the only kid at school back then to know about the Missingno glitch.

Big fan of handhelds, even at home, I love laying on the couch with my DS, it's a nice and intimate gaming experience.

I loved handhelds since I played the Game Gear, but my fondest memory is beating Wario Land 3 for the first time. Damn I love that credits theme.

Growing up I never had a handheld, but my friend did and we would take turns playing Gameboy on the way to school. It was an hour-long trip so over the course of one year I played the hell out of some Tetris. Good times.

I like handhelds a lot more today. Currently, I play my DS more than any console. It's just more convenient, and with a kid it's hard to find much time to blow some hours on a console. I like playing the DS while I watch the news or TV in general.

Did anyone else find it odd that you have to tell Professor Oak what his grandson's name is? Or that he seems to like you better?

My laptop serves as the closest thing to a handheld for me. These days, I find that when I go somewhere, it's typically to do something other than play video games, rendering a handheld console unecessary.

My best memories of handheld gaming would be from Pokemon Blue. I played that game practically nonstop and put almost 400 hours into it.

The first major handheld game I played (that wasn't a Tiger handheld) was of course Tetris. My buddy had Alleyway, Tetris, Super Mario Land and what I remember to be a damn good GB port of Space Invaders.

I didn't get a Game Boy until 1998, and I got a Game Boy Color and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe (which is one HELL of a game, by the way. I think that game really got swept under the doormat and it offered a new twist to SMB). I soon got Mario Golf and a Game Boy Camera (boy, was that a pointless thing or what - and I didn't even have the printer!). I remember, and this was sad and probably sadistic, renting Revenge of the Nerds and Swordfish just so i could get that one chick's and Halle Berry's tits on the camera! Mario Golf for GBC was better than the N64 version hands down.

Yeah... my good ol' red Gameboy Pocket was my second system after my Intellivision.

me and my brother each got one for Christmas with Super Marion Land and Donkey Kong Land 3. After playing the hell out of them I got Wario Land II which I played far more.

When I first got Pokemon, I was playing through viridian forest and for some reason it's one of my fondest video game memories. Then I lost my Pokemon Red for about a year after beating just Misty.

On the topic of Gary, in my first game I named him BITE ME. For some reason I thought it was hilarious back then when at the beginning of the game some text read "BITE ME: Gramps!"

Now I have about 20 or so different Gameboys, but my first red pocket is by far my favorite.

I had a lot of RPGs on my handhelds, they were perfect for long trips and bathroom time.

Also, you killed Gary's Raticate.

This.

Ooh, thirded. In fact, I almost always play my DS with the tv running in the background.

I remember one time when I was sitting in my room at age nine, playing Pokemon Yellow in my Game Boy color, and I smelled the air and my room smelled like mushrooms (I hate the smell of cooking mushrooms), and for some reason I smelled the speaker on my Game Boy Color and I smelled mushrooms, so I didn't play my GBC for about a year after that. Mind you, I didn't find out until much later that someone was cooking mushrooms in the nearby kitchen, but I still didn't play it for a while.

Also, I must have an overactive left index finger or something, because every handheld console I own gets a broken L button after a couple years.

Handheld console games can be just as engrossing (if not moreso) than console games; given the fact that I've gone through Dragon Warrior III on GBC three times, I've probably logged at least two hundred hours into that game alone. And don't even get me started on Pokemon.

Oh, and speaking of Pokemon, my Game Boy Color is the yellow one with the the pokemon in the black border surrounding the screen (it came with Pokemon Yellow).

Also, fun fact: Killer Instinct on Game Boy is better than Killer Instinct on SNES.

Cam, I love to saute/smell/consume mushrooms.

Also, Killer Instinct Gold is the pinnacle of the KI franchise.

Fourthed. I don't know what it is, but I can't stand playing my handheld games in my house without a TV on. On a vacation, however, I can.

My first Gameboy was a Purple Gameboy Color. Then I got a Gameboy Advance in Arctic White. Then I got a DS in Blue, but it broke, so I got another DS in Blue which also broke. After that I got a DS Lite in Black. Then I got a Gameboy Advance SP in the limited edition NES colors. I recently got a PSP 3000 in black.
