Time of crisis my ass. This is the Government trying to kill things that threaten their power. One group trying to control another. Business as usual in America. Laughing

Would they try to shut down the whole Internet or just stuff related to the US? I don't understand the fucking article.

I just want to understand this correctly... when Kristanna Loken starts to take over machines in her quest to destroy Tech-Com's leadership, the president wants our permission to stop her?

Lieberman was also one of the main guys who opposed videogame violence back in the 90's.

Fuck him and everything he stands for.

He also looks like David Spade in 30 years:

The problem with most of these anti-technology senators is that they don't understand how the technology works.

Do I even need to bring up the "internet is a series of tubes" incident?

I think the government needs a kill switch.

"If there's a serious national emergency, we need to totally shut down an information dissemination device without peer so that... the American people are totally helpless?"

I think I just figured out why they want this. It's too bad that there's nobody tech literate enough in the government to know that things don't work like that. It's just one reason I'm glad the baby boomers are reaching the end of the road.

I don't understand the anti-technology sentiment. Reagan wasn't afraid of technology. In fact, when he was running for president, he was once asked how he could lead modern America, when his generation had grown up in a time without computers, space shuttles, and other modern marvels.

Reagan replied: "You're right, we didn't have those things. So we invented them."

Technology can do so much good.

I'd like a kill switch for just my city. I have one for my router and it's really satisfying pressing it when someone is downloading stuff you expressly warned them against even looking up. Also, I should be the one to carry it.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.

Regan was the shit. I'm talking about 70 year old senators who complain about rock & roll, videogames, and the evils that are corrupting our youth. While the senators themselves are permanently sloshed and doing lines off the backs of hookers.

Reagan had his faults, but so did every President. He and Nixon were definately my modern day favs, and yes I'm very serious.

Nixon is the kind of president we need now.

I don't know if you were being serious or not, but to an extent I agree. Granted, the man was very very very flawed and did some stupid shit, however if he never let his ego get the best of him, he might've been regarded as one of the best Presidents ever. I know that's a stretch, especially with what in the next 3 years, but it would be interesting to see how he would've handled it.

Definately...I'd rather have a headstrong asshole like Nixon rather than a softheart like Carter.

Alcoholism, paranoia, Cambodia, and all his personal vendettas aside, Nixon actually did a pretty good job.

This is just a load of shit.
It's true that people can access their bank account information from remote computers.
but it's also true that those banks keep constant backups of peoples account info.

And I can see how if something happened like in Splinter Cell where Georgia launched "Technology based attacks" that shut down a few hospitals and some traffic lights. But those types of things aren't so much internet as it is secure networks.

And what's that bullshit about them monitoring private websites to monitor their security?

I can't say for sure, but I think it might be related to an effort to try and limit traffic of illegal shit. Along with the security bullshit.

My point is just that not all old people are irrationally scared of technology.
