This isn't shocking. It's an ATM, you can get cash from it.

The article is misleading. It doesn't say EBT recipients -do- get cash from casino ATMs, it says they -can-. Big difference. Also, what stops them from taking it from the ATM up the street and walking in?

This is one of the big flaws with government assistance programs, though. You can't control how they spend the money.

There's definitely got to be more accountability for how welfare dollars are spent. Maybe the government should receive a copy of the receipt every time you use your card, so they can see the details on what you're buying. Cigarettes, fast food, etc should be banned.

Cigs should be, but fast food? You gotta feed the kids, ya know, and can't always spend the hour to cook a meal.

You also have to take into consideration if it would be less cost intensive to just let them get Newports and double cheeseburgers on the dole, or to hire a bunch of accountants and other monitors to actually track all of that. Personally, I think that mandatory weekly drug testing and the installation of some type of semi-permanent birth control like a copper IUD (or whatever you can give a man as an equivalent) should be necessary to qualify for welfare.

Fine. But no happy meals.

I always thought that the worst thing I saw with welfare was poor guys buying 2 liter after 2 liter of Sam's Cola, going to the rain sewer drain across the lot, dump them all out and then get the deposit for liquor. Now they can go to the casino? Think I need to get on welfare, stat! This Is A Joke

I'd say of all the people who are on Welfare, only about 40% of them actually deserve it. I spent almost 4 years seeing countless people exploiting the system, some of which had teen kids and still trying to use WIC.

It's true. It seems that quite a few people on welfare have an ample supply of gold jewelry and big screen TV's.

It's just one of those things were people are going to milk it no matter what. It pisses me off to see people buying drugs and popping out kids while on welfare, but really....what's the alternative? If you don't give them any money, those people will be on the street. We can't win either way.
