So I like to talk to forum members, and Tish, Char, and I are all updating the same threads over and over right now. Just curious if people use any messengers because very few members seem to have given their screennames for their profiles and stuff. Figured it couldn't hurt to ask people to share even if for whatever reason they chose not to before. Oh, and I feel like this has been done once already, but I can't recall and don't feel like looking, but just link to the other thread if it has:

I don't use AIM. I don't even make use of my fucking email. I would use Skype, but I steal internet, so the signal can drop out unexpectedly. Talk to me in January, though, because I'll have my own cable internet connection by then.

I would adore to go on AIM ~ well no, that's a lie because I hate having AIM on my computer because I am convinced it's just filled with spyware ~ but I would love to talk to people in a chat environment... but I can't during the day, because I'm at work and I can't install programs without being an admin. user, and we are not allowed to go in chat programs 
But I would love to at work... too bad you guys don't use MSN messenger... I love it!

I know absolutely zero about web design or anything like that, but being that we have the forums and all, and we are pretty much IMing through them, could we make a case for an actual chat room on SydLexia.com?
Like I said, I know nothing about the possibility of that, but a cool thought nontheless.

But, if you think about it, it's rare for the forum to get this much traffic. There have been days where I check it in the morning, and come back in the afternoon to find only 3 posts.

Funny how Syd immediately logged onto AIM after this thread. Tish, what's your MSN name? I'm not on that much, but mine's cmdrgrevenilvec@hotmail.com. As for a chatroom on the website, that might be complicated. An IRC channel would be no problem at all however if people were equally as interested in that.

IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat. It's one of the oldest chat/piracy systems out there.
The most commonly used client for it is mIRC.

Yeah, it's a chat program. We'd have our own room just for ourselves. Also, while there are days the forum doesn't get much traffic, that doesn't mean people aren't reading, just not posting. Having an IRC room where people can just camp out (I'd be in there pretty much 24/7 except when rebooting) so conversations can go on over time in the style of the forum, as well as make for easier real time communication.

If you fear bloatware in the form of the usual messengers, I use gaim to connect to MSN, Yahoo, and AIM. It doesn't have as many fancy features as the others, but it takes up less resources as an IM client. Find me on Yahoo and AIM as sonictrust and on MSN at daedalus_filter@hotmail.com
