I have about two weeks left before the semester starts, and rather than endlessly and mindlessly upgrade my class on MW3 on the Wii, I'd like to knockout one more RPG that I haven't beaten yet. I have my eye on Final Fantasy II (since I have both I and III), but I've also heard good things about Breath of Fire II. But if you have any other suggestions that can be purchased from the VC (no Earthbound), vote other.

Well for one Breath of Fire 1 isn't on the VC.
Isn't 2 the better game anyway?

But does he really want to play Final Fantasy 2? If this is the Japanese numbering, that game is just a chore to play through. Go with Breath of Fire 2.

Huh, could've sworn it was. I know it got a GBA rerelease but that doesn't help you.
2 is a direct sequel to 1, which is why I was gonna suggest you play the first one in order to get the story. It's a great game either way though.

I've beaten both Final Fantasy II and Breath of Fire 2. If you were talking the Japanese numbering in the FF games I'd say FF II is my least favorite in the series that I've played. But since you're talking IV, I'd go with that. Breath of Fire 2 is a good one though. However I'd have to say I enjoyed FF IV more mostly due to the nostalgia. I went through Breath of Fire 2 only once, but I've gone through FF IV dozens of times.
