ATI Catalyst Driver Release Notes:

One Section Reads:
Quote:
Borderlands
* Performance increases 3-5% on ATI Radeon™ HD 5800 and ATI Radeon™ HD
5700 series single card and CrossFire™ configurations when anti-aliasing and
anisotropic filtering is enabled
* Performance increases 3-8% on ATI Radeon™ HD 5970 single card and
CrossFire™ configurations when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering is enabled
* Performance increases 2-6% on ATI Radeon™ HD 5600 and ATI Radeon™ HD
5500 series single card configurations when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering
is enabled
* Performance increases 2-10% on ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 series single card and
CrossFire™ configurations when anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering is enabled

Fucking sweet right?

Yeah... then read on...

"Borderlands" may intermittently fail after a duration of gameplay

Guys and gals at ATI... No one in their right mind would agree to a 3-8% speed increase at the guaranteed risk of the game crashing. How bad is this problem? You get 5-10 minutes of game time and then the game crashes. Why would this push be made without an immediate fix?

Doesn't anyone at AMD read what the company publishes prior to it being put out? How could this not be spotted?

If you are still playing Borderlands, then skip this release of drivers.

I mean 3%-8% isn't much. If you are running under 30FPS, then you're only getting an extra 2-3 FPS. Not going to help much. And if your running over 60FPS, then it doesn't really matter.

I generally keep up with the drivers and didn't see that particular known flaw. The game kept crashing so I went and did a quick bit of searching until I came across it.

I opted to roll back to 10.6.

I still think this is a huge issue. They proclaimed speed increases and created crashes. This is the type of release that should never be distributed as a final release.

ATI is racist against Linux.

I'm not a bad enough dude, but I am an edgy little shit. I'll do what I can.
