I have required glasses since I was about 16 years old. Over that time I have changed the style of my glasses every 3-4 years. For the first time in that period, I have no desire to change the style, but I do want a slightly different color or perhaps to even go back to a previous pair.
The place where my eye doctor is located takes my medical insurance for the exam, but does not accept my glasses insurance (two different policies). So I have shopped around at some local stores and found the following.
Pre-Insurance Costs:
Glasses frames that fit my face: $350-$550
Post-Insurance Costs:
Glasses frames that fit my face: $176-$336
Standard glasses lenses: $168
Sunglasses lens: $210
So even at the best value, I am going to be dropping ~$350 for new glasses.
Well fuck that. My prescription didn't change that much and my doctor told me I can just keep the ones I have right now if I really want.
When I mentioned how fucking ridiculous the price of glasses was to a friend who also wears them all the time, they recommended I look at a website:
http://www.zennioptical.com
They sell glasses with lenses between $8-$100. I am tempted to try it out and buy a dozen pairs. Fuck it, I'll just litter my life with glasses everywhere at that price. I am going back to the eye-doctor to get my "PD" value checked so that I can buy the correct sized pairs, but this seems almost too good to be true.
As for sizing, I have the measurements of all the glasses I currently own, so I can reference the size of what I like and buy based on that.
Has anyone else bought prescription glasses online before?
