If you have been in chat in the last few days you may or may not remember me talking about buying a DS to play pokemon ss/hg...
So i've bought one, what other games should i own?
I'll play any type of game, go wild as long as you think it's decent.

oh man so many good games.
theme park
civilization revolution (or whatever its called)
the zelda games are good, but might not be your cup of tea
on the RPG side, any of the FF or DQ or even the Chrono Trigger remake is good
henry hatsworth
professor layton games
theres more im sure, but im sure someone else will cover it
and if you bought a DS or DS lite, there is a TON of GBA games you can also buy for that.

just buy a flash card (M3 or Supercard) and get the ROMs. most of those games you wont be able to locate either way since they are no longer being produced. you might be able to procure them at a used video game shop or on the internet, but you will be paying too much IMO

I've seen my mate do that before. Though he had an emulator on his flash drive to run it or something. It was weird.

Meh you don't need to do that I don't think. You can pretty much find any of these games on Ebay for a couple bucks here and there. I don't know about you, but I prefer to have boxes and manuals for games instead of having them all on some ROM card.
Anyway, everyone pretty much covered the must haves already, but I'll put in my vote for them too:
DS:
All of the Phoenix Wright games (Even Apollo Justice)
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Fire Emblem: Shadow of the Dragon
Hotel Dusk (if you dig interactive novels)
The World Ends With You
All of the Castlevania games
Both Professor Layton games
And of course, Chrono Trigger
GBA:
All of the Castlevania games
Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (love this game)
Both Golden Sun games
Dragonball Z The Legacy of Goku games are really good too if you're into DBZ

DS:
Elite Beat Agents (Rthym game)
The World Ends with You (RPG. Probably my favorite DS game)
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (I agree this is the best of the three, followed by Portrait of Ruin)
Wario: Master of Disguise (Platformer)
New Super Mario Bros. (Platformer)
Contra 4 (Friggin' Contra)
Dragon Quest IV (RPG)
Puyo Pop Fever (Puzzle. Mean Bean Machine, but better)
Bleach: Dark Souls (Fighting. This and Bleach: the Blade of Fate are quite excellent. Bleach: Third Phantom is like Fire Emblem)
Lost Magic (RPG. Pretty tough)
Chrono Trigger (Friggin' Chrono Trigger)
Star Fox Command (Weird controls, but you get used to them)
GBA:
Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance (All the GBA Castlevania games are great, but this is my personal favorite. Also came with Aria of Sorrow in a double pack)
Metroid Fusion (My favorite Metroid. Tar and feather me as well)
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper (Starring Eagle! Woohoo!)
Megaman Zero 2 (Might wanna hold off on this, as Capcom may release a Megaman Zero collection for the DS soon)
Golden Sun (Friggin' Golden Sun)
Final Fantasy IV (Best Final Fantasy Ever)
Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga (Best of the Mario and Luigi RPG series)
Megaman and Bass (Friggin' Bass is playable!)
Wario Land 4 (My favorite Wario game)
