From the ashes of Circuit City we have begun to see the rise of P. C. Richard & Son.
Who the fuck are they?
Did I miss something? How the hell did this company come out of no where to compete with Best Buy?

Doesn't sound like a place I would buy electronics from. Are you sure they're not competing with Men's Warehouse?

It's an NYC/Tri-state metro area thing if ya didn't notice. Kinda like Fry's which I always hear about but never see.

I know of both of these places, as I lived in NY and now live in Vegas. I have a Fry's within 15 minutes, and it kicks Best Buy's ass.

Yeah, we don't have this bullshit in Massachusetts. Instead, we have empty Circuit City buildings that no one wants to takeover and/or pay to rebuild so that it doesn't look like a Circuit City. And those are way cooler.
I'll stick to Lechmere and Fretter, thanks.

You have the alien-themed Fry's there, don't you? I've seen pictures, it looks fucking awesome.
When I lived in San Jose, there was an Aztec-themed Fry's, an Egyptian themed one, and a "Silicon Valley" themed one.
And yes, we really need one of those in the northeast. It's the ultimate fucking geek store.

I've never seen a Fry's before, but I see commercials for it once in a while, even though they don't operate in Virginia. But exactly why would an electronics store be themed after anything other than an electronics store?

I like electronics stores like my Nazi Germany museums - with a Nazi Germany theme.

What do you mean by this question? When you say 'themed', do you mean named? Both of these stores are named after people.

Well damn, sounds like we're totally missing out where I live. We've got nothing but Best Buy & Toys R Us for your gaming needs.

Is there any good reason for these or are they just built that way for its own sake?

there's a P.C.Richard's right next to the White Castle that I always go to in Nanuet. I never go during the day, so teh place is always closed, and when I go during the day I always end up in ToyWhiz instead.
One of these days I will make it into that store.

You know what, I'm an idiot. I didn't even see Usa's post. Sorry about that.
The Fry's here is themed after the history of the Strip, and I know there is one in L.A. that is an alien-themed Fry's.

So are all Fry's stores built to a theme or are the ones near you just special? I've never seen this part of it in the commercials.

Themed stores area great gimick to get people into your shop for the first time, great prices and service get you repeat customers. Still, some form of shtick is needed to pull people out of the comfort of their regular routines.
Personally I can't see why I would go and shop at P.C. Richard & Son. It sounds old fashion and is replacing Circuit City locations. It has failure written all over it.
